Mini has launched the new Convertible version of the Cooper S in India, with prices starting from Rs 58.5 lakh (ex-showroom). The car is based on the regular Cooper S, but it gets an electrically operated roof which can be opened or closed in 18 seconds at speeds of up to 30 kmph. The car is available in a single fully loaded variant, and here is everything it has to offer: 

Mini Cooper Convertible Exterior 

The design of the Mini Cooper Convertible stays instantly recognisable, carrying that unmistakable Mini silhouette with its upright stance and cheeky proportions. It looks identical to its hard-top counterpart. It blends nostalgia with a fresh, cute, and contemporary design.

The front gets circular LED headlights paired with circular LED DRLs, along with a refreshed grille, of which the upper part has been blacked out and houses the ‘S’ badging. 

At the size, complementing the aesthetics are dual-tone 17-inch alloy wheels and body claddings that run throughout the length of the car. What's different here is an electrically operated roof that folds in 18 seconds at speeds of up to 30 kmph. 

Moving towards the rear, the LED taillights house the Union Jack detailing, and the bumpers are finished in dual-tone. The Cooper S branding and the Mini emblem can be seen at the centre of the tailgate. 

Mini Cooper Convertible Interior 

Step inside the Cooper Convertible and you will instantly notice that the dashboard layout is typical Mini, with its circular design theme. In fact, the dashboard is the same as its standard hardtop counterpart. The cabin carries a minimalistic dual-tone colour theme, and the dashboard is finished in sustainable materials, which can be further customised as per customer needs. 

Buyers can opt for a specially crafted accessory pack or choose the ones they like while booking the car. Optional features that are offered in these packs include a Sport steering wheel, a heated steering wheel, MINI Experience modes, and powered seats.

The space on the second row of seats is surprisingly decent, but it should be best left out for children; adults will find themselves in a tight fit for longer durations. 

Mini Cooper Convertible Features 

Mini has loaded the Cooper Convertible with a host of features, and these are the same that we have already seen on the standard Cooper S. Taking the spotlight is a 9.4-inch circular touchscreen infotainment screen, which has functions like climate control and seat massage embedded in it. This screen is Android-based and also serves as the instrument cluster with a speedometer and fuel gauge in it.

Other key features include a heads-up display, Harman Kardon sound system, powered front seats, automatic climate control, ambient lighting, wireless charging, a rearview camera, and cruise control.

The Cooper Convertible is available with only a single engine option, which is a 2-litre turbo petrol which is paired with a 7-speed DCT gearbox. Here are the detailed specifications:

Mini Cooper Convertible Pricing and Rivals

Mini has launched the Cooper Convertible with a tag of Rs 58.5 lakh (ex-showroom), which is about 15 lakh more than the standard Cooper S, on which the car is based. The convertible model is a more exotic version of the standard Cooper S. 

The Cooper Convertible does not have any direct rivals at this price; the closest car it can take on, with a retractable roof, is the MG Cyberster, which is priced at Rs 75 lakh (ex-showroom). But if you’re in for a unique car with high performance along with practicality at this price, the Volkswagen Golf GTI and the Skoda Octavia RS are strong contenders.
