Simple One Gen 1.5 Vs Ather 450X: Image Comparison

Simple Energy recently launched the Gen 1.5 in India. This electric scooter promises more range and other tempting features like park assist, TFT display and more. Available at a price of Rs 1,66,000 (ex-showroom Delhi), the Gen 1.5 competes directly with the Ather 450X. Let's find out how these electric scooters compete against each other.

Design

In terms of the design, the Simple One Gen 1.5 looks quite good. With its sharp body panels and edgy design, the Simple One does look quite appealing. It gets an apron mounted headlight and a slick looking tail section which complements the overall design of this EV.

The Ather 450X is one of the best looking electric scooters out there in terms of sporty styling. It looks quite aggressive and compact in terms of the design. The Ather 450X too, gets an apron mounted headlight along with a rather simple looking tail section. All these design elements do make the Ather 450X look quite appealing.



Performance 

The Simple One Gen 1.5 gets a 3.7kWh fixed battery and a 1.3kWh removable battery taking the total capacity to 5kWh. It gets an 8.5kWh motor which makes 72Nm. The claimed 0 to 40kmph acceleration time for the Simple One Gen 1.5 is 2.77 seconds, while the claimed top speed is 105kmph. Simple Energy claims a range of 248km for the Gen 1.5, which is quite impressive for an electric scooter.

The Ather 450X gets a 3.7kWh fixed battery pack. It gets a 6kW motor which produces 26Nm. Ather claims a 0 to 40kmph time of 3.3 seconds for the 450X, while the claimed top speed is 90kmph. The claimed range of the 450X is 161km.


Features 

The Simple One Gen 1.5 is one of the most loaded electric scooters in the market. It gets a 7-inch TFT display which shows all the important information like speed, trip information, battery percent, range, date and time. It also supports smartphone connectivity with turn-by-turn navigation, SMS/call alerts and music controls. Other important features include ride modes, TPMS, regenerative braking, Over The Air (OTA) updates, geofencing and park assist with both forward and reverse movement.

The Ather 450X gets a 7-inch touch screen TFT which shows all the crucial information and also gets smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth. It gets google maps navigation, SMS/call alerts, Whatsapp notifications and music controls. It gets hill hold assist, magic twist which works like engine braking and 3 riding modes: Road, Rain and Rally. It also gets safety features like fall safe, theft alert and emergency stop signaling.

In comparison the Simple One has got a more convenient set of features which would definitely make it a more practical electric scooter.


Underpinnings

The Simple One Gen 1.5 features an underbone chassis as before. It gets a telescopic fork and a rear monoshock. For braking duties it gets disc brakes at both ends and CBS (Combined Braking System) for added assurance while braking.

The Ather 450X also gets an aluminium chassis along with a telescopic fork and a monoshock at the rear. The Ather also gets disc brakes at  both ends. For added assurance the 450X also gets a CBS (Combines Braking System).


Practicality 

The Simple One Gen 1.5 is quite a practical electric scooter. It gets a 30-litre underseat storage which is quite spacious for a scooter. Along with this, it also gets a USB-C charging port which makes it convenient to charge a mobile phone while riding.

The Ather 450X gets a comparatively smaller 22-litre underseat storage. It can still  store a fair amount of stuff but not as much as the Simple One Gen 1.5. It gets a USB-C charging port too, for added convenience.

In terms of the pricing the Simple One Gen 1.5 costs Rs 1.66 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), while the pricing for the Ather 450X starts at Rs 1.49 lakh and the top end variant costs Rs 1.79 lakh (ex-showroom). 

 

Talking about the Simple One, it is one of the most loaded electric scooters for the price. It gets a removable battery, 248km claimed range, better claimed acceleration, higher claimed top speed and is more practical too. All these points do make the Gen 1.5 a tempting option to consider. The only major con being the lower sales figures and limited after sales and service centres. Simple Energy has announced plans to open 150 new stores and 200 more service centres. So, this factor should be taken into account if you are planning on buying one now.

 

The Ather 450X is an EV which perfectly balances performance and efficiency. It is also one of those EV brands with the least amount of product issues, making the 450X quite a reliable scooter to consider.
