  • Maruti Suzuki Fronx EV in the works.

  • It’s expected to be launched post 2025.

  • Could get EV-specific styling and features.

  • Expected to slot as Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400 rival.

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx brings a unique proposition to the sub-4 metre SUV segment as it’s based on the Baleno hatchback with SUV-like styling. Therefore, it’s a crossover. Now, Suzuki has revealed its electrification plans for India and amongst the probable models was a silhouette of the Fronx. This leads us to believe that an all-electric version of Fronx is in the works.

Now, details about the Maruti Suzuki Fronx are slim. And its overall styling should remain similar to the ICE-powered model you see in these images. That said, you can definitely expect Maruti Suzuki to make minor design changes to the Fronx EV to distinguish it from the ICE-powered model.

On the inside, the obvious change would be a differentiation in the instrumentation, with the dials being EV-specific. Apart from that, the Fronx EV could get a different colour scheme and upholstery. That said, its feature list should be similar, with highlights like 9-inch infotainment, 360-degree camera, wireless phone charger, and six airbags being retained.

Once again, it’s still too early to talk about specifications. But we suspect the Fronx EV could be based on the same platform as its ICE sibling. Plus, one can expect a decently powerful electric motor and a large-ish battery pack to offer enough long-distance capability. Plus, the Fronx being a modern EV, should get fast charging capabilities as well.

That said, it would be a while before the Fronx EV becomes a reality as before that, the carmaker will take the wraps off the production-spec eVX in 2025. But when the Fronx comes out, we suspect it’ll sit in the same segment as the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400. So you can expect prices to range around the Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh mark.
