Kia Carens EV spotted testing in South Korea
It gets new design elements over the current model
Spy shots confirm the presence of ADAS and front parking sensors
Expected to be offered with multiple battery packs, and a claimed range of up to 500 km
It is not the first time that the Kia Carens EV has been spotted, as it has been spotted plenty of times on our shores. This time it was seen in South Korea where it was captured while it was charging. Though it was heavily camouflaged, crucial details of the electric MPV were revealed.
Without further ado, let’s take a look at what changes the upcoming Carens EV gets over the current model, and what else we should expect from the upcoming EV:
The Carens EV will arrive with an updated design. Earlier spy shots have disclosed that the headlights feature a triangular-ish shape and a connected LED DRL strip spanning the width of the fascia. We can make out that the front design of the Carens EV gets cues similar to that of the EV6. Just like the Creta EV, the charging port is located on the nose in the middle portion of the supposedly closed-off grille.
The Carens EV’s alloy wheel design is also new, and they are aerodynamically designed for better aero efficiency. The silhouette looks identical to the model that currently retails on our shores.
The Carens EV will be getting connected LED tail lights, and as hinted by the spy shots, it will have vertically-oriented tail lights similar to the ones found in the Kia Seltos.
One key detail that can be discerned is the addition of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), courtesy of the presence of a radar on the bumper of the Carens EV Additionally, one can also see front parking sensors in the bumper. The smaller Syros comes with side parking sensors, so chances are that Kia could introduce that safety feature as well with the Carens EV.
The Carens EV is likely to be offered with amenities such as a 12.3-inch dual digital display setup, dual-zone auto AC, wireless phone charger, powered and ventilated front seats as well as a panoramic sunroof.
Apart from the ADAS features, and front and rear parking sensors, it could get amenities such as 6 airbags as standard, ABS with EBD, ESC, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and a 360-degree camera
Powertrain details are still under the wrap, but we can expect Kia to launch the Carens EV with multiple powertrains featuring multiple battery packs. It would be safe to assume that the electric MPV would offer a claimed range of up to 500 km.
The Kia Carens EV is likely to be priced around Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be a more affordable option to the larger BYD eMAX 7.
