An invite to a Tata Motor facility on a Sunday evening might sound like a painstaking thought for the starter, but what our visiting friends got on their plate at Tata’s ‘.ev day’ was a full-course meal well served. Everything that would keep us enthusiasts high on the love for four wheels – more specifically, the electrified ones now.
Yes, it was the upcoming Tata Harrier.ev which was showcased once again after its first unveiling at Auto Expo 2025. But this time, it wasn’t meant for a standstill preview. They took to its handwheels – not one but four of them, and then the madness began! Get some caffeine…here’s what happened.
The Tata Harrier EV is confirmed to come with an all-wheel drive (AWD) configuration. What that means on paper is that all four wheels are being pumped by its motors, but seeing it in action? That was right in front of our eyes.
First up was a steep inclined ramp, which was so unforgiving that not just any car could take it on. But the Harrier EV? It simply crawled up effortlessly and rolled down with the same ease. The control it showcased on the climb was nothing short of impressive. Thanks to a lot of torque and power on offer from its dual motors.
Next up was the real adrenaline rush – drifting. The four Harrier EVs hit high speeds with controlled braking, putting their tyres into a soul fight against the tarmac. The result? Chunks of rubber flying, the scent of burnt tyres in the air – what a true petrolhead’s perfume is.
Shifting gears to a more technical showcase, the Harrier EV took on a slalom challenge, snaking through closely placed traffic cones with absolute precision. This smooth and effortless manoeuvrability seemed like four SUVs in a symphony of motion. It proves its controlled capability in city traffic. They even had a Harrier EV taking the whole course in reverse while the others trailed in forward motion. Talk about manoeuvrability.
Last but not least, a reverse J-turn. Imagine you’re in a Rohit Shetty movie. Four Harrier EVs are speeding in reverse, only to snap to a perfect halt, turning to face the audience in absolute swag. Talk about making a hero entry!
The Tata Harrier EV, as showcased till now, will carry a similar silhouette and design as its fuel-propelled counterpart except for some EV-specific design tweaks like a closed-off grille and redesigned alloys.
While not much is confirmed, it is expected to be feature-rich, carrying a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch fully digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, and summon mode that allows the car to be moved forward and backwards using the key.
Safety is what usually Tata cars are best known for, and the Harrier EV will also be likely equipped with multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), hill hold assist, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS.
That said, it will have dual electric motors and an all-wheel drivetrain, likely a range of over 500 km and come with a price tag starting from around Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). With that, it will rival the Mahindra XEV 9e and BYD Atto 3.
