The much-anticipated Tata Sierra is set to make a staggered comeback — with its petrol and diesel versions slated to launch on November 25, followed by an all-electric iteration soon after. While Tata confirmed the near-production Sierra at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo earlier this year, the Sierra EV has already been spotted undergoing road testing, signalling that the electric iteration is actively in development even as ICE models prepare for launch. Here is everything we know about the Sierra EV and what it is expected to be like:

What Can We Decode?

The latest test mule of the Tata Sierra EV was seen wrapped in heavy camouflage, but a few key details still manage to stand out. The absence of an exhaust pipe gives away its electric identity, while the prototype runs on alloy wheels and features production-spec elements like a shark-fin antenna, ORVM-mounted turn indicators, and a rear spoiler.

The overall silhouette and body design appear nearly identical to the ICE-powered Sierra prototypes seen earlier, showcasing the same large windscreen and generous window area that hint at an airy cabin. Both the headlamps and tail-lamps seem to be temporary auxiliary units, suggesting that the final lighting setup is yet to be installed.

The test mule here also features a multilink rear suspension setup, hinting at Tata’s focus on delivering a more composed and premium driving experience.

Tata Sierra EV Design: A Modern Take On A Timeless Icon

The Tata Sierra EV is expected to carry forward most of the design cues seen on the near-production ICE version, featuring the same retro-modern styling with sleek rectangular headlamps, connected LED DRLs, and a blacked-out grille section. However, it will likely differ slightly from its ICE counterpart with minor tweaks to the bumpers and detailing to reflect its electric identity. Gloss black accents and a faux skid plate on the lower bumper complete the robust yet premium front profile.

The boxy silhouette remains the Sierra’s signature, and that’s what gives it its unmistakable charm. Its upright stance, large glass area, and strong shoulder lines give the SUV a bold presence, while design details like flush-type door handles, black cladding around the wheel arches, and a contrast black roof enhance its premium appeal. Tata’s designers have also reimagined the iconic “infinity” rear window styling with a split design to suit the modern five-door layout, maintaining a clear visual link to the classic Sierra.

At the back, the Sierra EV will carry a clean and minimalistic look like its ICE counterpart, with a flat tailgate and a width-spanning LED light bar that neatly integrates the taillamps. A roof-mounted spoiler and sculpted bumper add a sporty character, while subtle EV-specific cues such as revised alloy wheels or blue badging are likely to differentiate it from the ICE models.

Inside The Tata Sierra EV: Tech-Laden, Premium, And Purposeful

Step inside the Tata Sierra, and the SUV gets a connected triple-screen layout, comprising a fully digital instrument cluster, a central infotainment display, and a dedicated co-passenger screen, a first for any Tata car. The dashboard design looks minimalist yet premium, featuring body-coloured inserts that add contrast to the otherwise dark cabin theme.

The steering wheel follows Tata’s latest design language, with a gloss black finish and an illuminated Tata logo taking centre stage. The Sierra EV is likely to be a five-seater, featuring comfortable bench seats with adjustable headrests at the rear and no option for a third row. Space and visibility are expected to be strong points, thanks to the SUV’s large glass area and upright design.

While the overall cabin layout mirrors that of the ICE version, the EV iteration could introduce subtle differences, particularly around the centre console to accommodate EV-specific controls and storage.

Tata Sierra EV’s Features And Technology

While Tata Motors hasn’t officially revealed the features list yet, the Sierra EV is shaping up to be one of the most feature-rich SUVs in the brand’s lineup. Along with the triple-screen dashboard setup, it’s expected to offer an extensive list of comfort and convenience features. Highlights could include a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, ventilated and powered front seats, ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, an air purifier, and a premium sound system, likely sourced from JBL. Advanced features like Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) technology are expected.

On the safety front, Tata is expected to load the Sierra EV with seven airbags, Level-2 ADAS, electronic stability control (ESC), hill-hold assist, and a 360-degree camera with parking sensors at both ends. Other premium touches like an electronic parking brake with auto-hold and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) are also likely to be part of the package.

Petrol, Diesel, And Electric: Tata Sierra’s Powertrain Story

The Tata Sierra will be offered with both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric powertrain options. While exact figures haven’t been confirmed yet, the ICE lineup is expected to include a new 1.5-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The turbo-petrol unit is likely to produce around 170 PS and 280 Nm, whereas the diesel motor should deliver 118 PS and 260 Nm. Transmission options are expected to include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.

As for the Sierra EV, Tata has yet to reveal technical details, but it is expected to feature multiple battery pack options and could deliver a claimed range of around 450–500 km on a single charge, making it a capable all-electric alternative to the ICE version.

Tata Sierra EV Rivals and Market Positioning

Once launched, the Tata Sierra EV will slot into Tata.ev’s expanding electric SUV lineup, positioned above the Nexon EV and alongside the Curvv EV and Harrier EV. In terms of competition, the Sierra EV will take on a strong field of mid-size electric SUVs, including the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE6, Mahindra XEV 9e, VinFast VF6 and VF7, MG Windsor, and the MG ZS EV. It will also face internal competition from its close sibling, the Curvv EV, making the electric SUV segment more dynamic than ever.

Tata Sierra EV Launch Timeline and Expected Price

Tata Motors has confirmed that the ICE-powered Sierra will make its debut on November 25, marking the brand’s return to the iconic nameplate. The SUV is expected to be priced between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the variant and powertrain choice.

As for the Sierra EV, Tata has not announced an official launch timeline yet. However, it is likely to follow soon after the ICE version hits the market. The all-electric version is expected to be priced in the Rs 15 lakh to Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom) range, positioning it as a premium electric SUV offering in Tata’s lineup.

ZigSays…

The Tata Sierra EV being spotted on test marks a major step toward its long-awaited debut. With the ICE versions set to arrive first on November 25, the EV’s testing indicates that Tata is gearing up for its next big electric launch soon after. If the spy shots are anything to go by, the Sierra EV is inching closer to production and could soon become a key player in Tata’s expanding electric SUV lineup.
