BMW is set to give the bring the new X5 much sooner than anticipated. While the current model is only three years old, BMW has decided to introduce an all-new model in 2018 rather than go in for the traditional mid-life update. BMW has done this to take on increased competition from other luxury car manufacturers. Spy shots suggest that the new model will follow the design precedent set by the X7 concept shown at the Frankfurt Motor show earlier in 2017. More details are awaited.
The BMW X5 currently is positioned as the largest SUV in the BMW lineup and is priced from Rs 74.7 lakh to Rs 80.1 lakh, ex-showroom pan-India. The X5 is being offered in two variants - the xDrive20d Expedition and the xDrive20d M Sport.
The BMW X5 in India is offered with a single diesel engine option. The 3.0-litre (2993cc), in-line 6-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine develops 258PS of maximum power at 4000rpm and 560Nm of peak torque between 1500-3000rpm and is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Power is sent to all four wheels via BMW's xDrive AWD system, it also gets a variable torque split for better traction through corners. BMW claims the X5, regardless of variants, has a mileage of 15.97kmpl.
Key highlight features include all LED-headlights, panoramic sunroof, adaptive cruise control, soft-close doors, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 4-zone climate control, 16-speaker 600W Harman Kardon surround sound system, heads-up display, 19-inch alloy wheels (staggered tyre sizes on the M Sport) etc.
