Expert's Opinion on Raider
Overview

More than just a commuter
- The TVS Raider is a premium, sporty 125cc bike
- It offers a great blend of practicality and performance
- It’s also one of the most feature loaded bikes in the 125cc category
- The Raider is the only bike in its segment that gets riding modes
Design

Eye-catching, but polarising
- Looks really sporty for a 125cc bike
- Bug-eye LED headlights make it really stand out in the crowd
- Comes in some really attractive colours
- More mature riders might find the design too flashy
Performance & Mileage

Quick & Efficient
- Gets two riding modes - Power and Eco, which change power output
- 11.2Nm of peak torque makes it the torquiest bike in the 125cc segment
- One of the quickest accelerating 125cc bikes - 0-60kmph in just 6.23 seconds (as tested)
- Raspy exhaust note sounds really nice on the move
- Idle start-stop system gives it great mileage - 71.94kmpl in the city, 65.44kmpl on the highway (as tested)
- Can cruise easily at 85-90kmph.
- Engine feels out of breath at highway speeds
- Engine is smooth at slow speeds, but gets buzzy past 75kmph
Handling

Nimble, yet sure-footed
- At 123kg, it is decently light to manage, whether parking, or filtering through city traffic
- Feels quite stable in corners once you get used to its eagerness to tip into corners
- Combined braking system work well enough and feels predictable
- Eagerness to tip into corners takes a little getting used to
- Front brake bite is lacking, and has very little lever travel, making precise braking tricky
- Braking performance is a bit below par - 60kmph to 0 in 24.23m (as tested)
Ride Quality

Rides like a dream
- Suspension setup strikes a great balance between sporty and comfortable
- Handles speed breakers and potholes without feeling jarring
- 180mm ground clearance helps it clear even the tallest speed breakers with ease
- Ride quality feels great even with a pillion on board, and does not wallow over bumpy roads
Comfort & Storage

Great for solo and two-up
- Riding position is a bit on the sportier side with slightly rear set footpegs and a low-set handlebar
- Still feels comfortable for daily commutes
- Low 780mm seat height allows even shorter riders to get their feet flat on the ground
- Even the split seat variants have plenty of space to accommodate larger riders comfortably
- Small storage space under rear seat is useful for storing knick-knacks
- Split pillion seat is a bit tall to climb on, but feels comfortable when you're astride
Features

Tech-loaded
- Colour segmented LCD display looks good, is easy to read and displays all relevant information
- USB port ahead of fuel filler cap is a handy addition
- Top-end SX variant gets full-colour TFT screen - a first in segment
- Turn-by-turn navigation is a very useful feature to have on the SX variant
- SX also offers smartphone connectivity for call & message alerts
- Voice command feature needs a headset (wired or Bluetooth) for your phone
- Voice commands are finicky at best
Verdict

Is the TVS Raider 125 worth it?
- While the TVS Raider's price - Rs 95,439 for the base single seat variant to Rs 1,03,830 for the top SX variant, is on slightly on the higher side compared to its immediate competitors such as the Hero Xtreme 125R, it offers a great riding experience and is properly feature packed. It's a bike we'd certainly recommend for those seeking a commuter bike that just does more.
