Mahindra Thar 5-door exterior and interior spied with production-ready details.
Gets 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, redesigned LED headlights and new grille.
To come equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital driver’s display, and sunroof
Safety kit should include six airbags, front parking sensors, and likely a 360-degree camera.
Launch expected in mid-2024.
Mahindra is all set to introduce the 5-door iteration of the Thar by mid-2024, and we're getting more details ahead of its launch. The latest spy images of a production-ready test mule provide us with an entire rundown of what the upcoming Thar 5-door will look like, with an in-depth look at its interior. Let's delve into all the details and take a look at upgrades it gets over the Thar 3-door.

These latest spy images provide you the clearest look at the production-ready Thar 5-door’s interior. For starters, this particular test mule has an all-black colour scheme for the seats and dashboard, along with a beige roof liner, which provides a slightly upmarket feel. You also get the new Mahindra steering wheel that’s offered in the XUV700 and Scorpio N.

Mahindra has also focussed on improving the comfort aspect of the Thar 5-door. Front occupants now get a centre armrest. However, the focus here is clearly for back seat occupants as they get an arm rest, rear AC vents and type-C USB charging ports to keep your devices juiced up. Clearly, Mahindra is leaving no stone unturned to make the Thar 5-door a ideal family vehicle as well.
And this is one of the most useful additions of all: an electronically operated fuel lid, which is very useful considering the smaller model has a manual lock using the key.

Apart from the aforementioned features like a 10.25-inch infotainment system and digital driver’s display, other new features on board the Thar include type-C charging ports, a single-pane sunroof, auto dimming IRVM, and keyless entry with push-button start/stop. Apart from that, we also expect a wireless phone charger and dual-zone climate control to be available.
Bits such as Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity (likely to be wireless), steering-mounted controls, cruise control, and a six-speaker sound system are expected to be retained.

The Thar 5-door gets front parking sensors and is also expected to receive safety upgrades such as a 360-degree camera and six airbags. Bits such as ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, rear parking sensors, and a tyre pressure monitoring system should be carried forward as well.

In terms of design, the Thar 5-door sports new 19-inch dual-tone alloys that dial up the premium quotient of the SUV. Apart from that, it packs a slightly revised front grille and LED projector headlights. Take a deep dive into the Thar’s exterior design by tapping on this link.

In the powertrain department, the Thar 5-door is expected to come equipped with the existing 130 PS 2.2-litre diesel or 150 PS 2-litre turbo-petrol engine options from the smaller SUV. It will be offered with both manual and automatic transmission options, along with rear-wheel and four-wheel-drive variants with a low-range transfer case.

This particular test mule is seen sporting a two-wheel drivetrain with an automatic transmission. How you may ask? Simple. It doesn’t have the four-wheel drive transfer case, and has a cubby hole instead, like the existing Thar 3-door.

It is expected that Mahindra will launch the Thar 5-door by mid-2024 with a price tag higher than the three-door model, which starts from Rs 10.98 lakh (ex-showroom). The Thar 5-door will lock horns with the upcoming Force Gurkha 5-door, while offering a more spacious alternative to the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
