Following successful trials in New Delhi and Navi Mumbai, Volvo Buses recently commenced trials of its 8400 low-floor CNG city bus in the city of Mumbai. The CNG city bus just like all commercial vehicles from the Swedish bus giant offers very high quality, safety and technology standards with the added convenience of an easy to maintain CNG engine, that has been specifically designed to meet the demands of everyday city driving conditions.
A design that is an outcome of close collaboration between product designers from both Sweden and India, the Volvo 8,400 low-floor CNG city bus typifies the strengths of Volvo in terms of reliability, better performance, optimal operating costs, passenger & driver comfort and safety.
A more balanced power-to-weight ratio, a perfectly matched driveline for optimum on road performance and low-entry points at the front and in the middle for easier ingress and egress are some of the most noteworthy features on this low carbon footprint public transportation bus from Volvo currently going through its experimental phase in various major cities in the country.
The technical prowess of this vehicle has been further spruced up with the implementation of a new transmission system from Volvo - Ecolife, which besides offering a smoother drive experience to the driver should bring down fuel consumption significantly thanks to a fine-tuned gear system that recognizes exactly when a vehicle is moving into idle or into gear.
Good news for passengers is that the new 8400 CNG city bus will have an even stronger retarder (CV braking) system that ensures the ride will be even more jerk-free than ever before. With safety at the very core of brand Volvo, its 8400 CNG variant is packed with crash sensors and heat & fire detection alarms that will keep passengers protected and informed of lurking hazards at all times.
The Volvo 8400 CNG bus trial initiative in Mumbai has been made possible with support from the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply & Transport Undertaking (BEST). Mr. Ashok Patil, Chairman, BEST flagged off the first bus trial from Oshiwara depot. Manish Sahi, Managing Director, Volvo Buses, India was also present on the occasion.
