Volkswagen sells 5,397 units in June 2011 highlights

With more than 50,000 of its cars now roaming India’s streets, Volkswagen cars have clearly penetrated into India’s booming automobile market. But its continued growth in India continues to be fueled by its hot hatchback, the Polo and its best selling premium compact sedan, the Volkswagen Vento, which together contributes to 3/4th of the company’s monthly sales in India.

The all new Passat, which caught a lot attention when it was launched in May this year, has seen some noticeable rise in sales, 197 of which were sold in the month of June, taking its aggregate sales in India now to 577 units.

Mr. Neeraj Garg, Member of Board & Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd. said “Despite the current slowdown in the market due to recent hikes in both fuel prices and lending rates, we have fared pretty well in the current month thanks to the strong product line up that we have in the market.”

Selling a total of 5,397 vehicles in the month of June alone, Volkswagen has done well to keep afloat despite the recent hikes in fuel and diesel vehicle prices, but the Polo and the Vento continue to be the backbone of the German car maker’s rise in India.
