has launched the Glanza
in India at an introductory price of Rs 7.21 lakh. (ex-showroom Delhi). The Glanza is essentially a rebadged Baleno and is the first product to come out of the partnership between Suzuki and Toyota. At first glance, you’d think that it looks exactly like the Baleno, on which it is based, and you’d be right. Still, here’s a detailed look at the Glanza in pictures from the launch event.
As expected, the Toyota Glanza is identical to the Baleno
save for the twin slat chrome grille and the Toyota badge on the nose.
A better frontal view reveals the revisions done to the Glanza, which remain minimal. Most of the design remains identical to the Baleno with the same front bumper, fog lamps and a centrally located large air dam.
The model pictured here is the top-end ‘V’ variant of the Toyota Glanza. The V variant gets a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 83PS and 113Nm. It can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a CVT. Its other petrol option is a 1.2-litre petrol mild-hybrid that makes 90PS and 113Nm of torque. While the Glanza pictured here is red in colour, it is also offered in four other shades - white, blue, grey and silver.
At the sides too, we see the Glanza retaining the same set of 16-inch wheels, which debuted on the Baleno facelift this year, with the only change being the Toyota badges on the hub caps.
At the rear, you’ll notice the Toyota badge at the centre of the tailgate along with the Glanza insignia set to the left of the tailgate. The chromed ‘V’ badge on the far right denotes that it is the top-spec variant.
A closer look at the five-spoke wheels reveal the similarities between the Glanza and the Baleno. Only a rebadged Toyota logo on the hub cap separates the two.
The model pictured here is the lower spec G variant of the Toyota Glanza. The ‘G’ variant of the Glanza gets the base 1.2-litre petrol engine like the V variant, but also gets the 1.2-litre mild-hybrid petrol option. This option is available only with the 5-speed manual gearbox.
The manual G variant of the Glanza misses out on features like automatic headlamps, follow-me-home headlamps, Light Guide, LED rear combo lamps and UV Cut glass. The AMT G variant, however, retains the LED rear combo lamps present on the V variant. Interestingly, in terms of pricing, the AMT Glanza undercuts the AMT Baleno by a staggering Rs 65,000.
The Toyota Glanza gets dual-tone blue-and-black seats at the front and rear. Dual SRS airbags are offered as standard on the Glanza.
Inside, the Glanza gets a 7-inch Smart Playcast system, which is identical to the Baleno’s Smart Play Studio system. The two cars share safety features such as dual airbags, ABS, EBD and a rear parking sensor with a camera in higher variants.
Up close, the Glanza shares its steering wheel with the Baleno. The wheel gets steering mounted audio controls for easy access to audio settings for the driver to avoid distractions on the road.
The instrument cluster of the Toyota Glanza sports a blue theme which is carried over from the Baleno. The blue theme extends to the MID as well.
The MID on the Toyota Glanza displays a plethora of information. The driver gets access to readouts like average car mileage, power and torque figures, clock, and open door alerts.
The Glanza also features a keyless start/stop button for easier car startup.
The top-end V variant is also available of with the CVT gearbox option. Toyota has made the automatic option available on the top-end V and also the low-end G variant.
The Glanza gets an automatic climate control system for driver and passenger comfort.
The Glanza’s 7-inch Smart Playcast system gets features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support like the Baleno’s Smart Play Studio unit. This makes it the first Toyota vehicle in India to get these two connectivity features.While the Glanza is a rebadged version of the Baleno, one of the main differences between the two is that Toyota is offering the Glanza with a 3-year/1 lakh km warranty as opposed to the Baleno’s 2-year/40,000 km warranty.
The Glanza will not only rival the hatchback it is based on, but will also take on other premium ones like the Honda Jazz
, Hyundai Elite i20
and the Volkswagen Polo.
