Here’s everything that happened as we head into the month of May

 

While the previous week was a relatively slow one mostly due to the coronavirus pandemic and the ongoing lockdown, the final week of April was thankfully an active one for the auto industry. Kicking things off was Datsun teasing its redi-GO facelift, followed by Mahindra launching the BS6-compliant Alturas G4. Other highlights of the week included Mahindra revealing the prices of the BS6-compliant Mahindra Scorpio and XUV500, as well as Skoda commencing bookings for multiple cars. And finally, Nissan revealed powertrain details of its 2020 Kicks SUV. 

Datsun redi-GO Facelift Teased

 

After a slew of spy shots, Datsun has finally released two teaser images of the updated redi-GO ahead of its launch this year. Updates on the outside include a smoother shoulder line, new headlamps with L-shaped DRLs and a swanky new set of wheels. It is expected to feature an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system among other interior tweaks. It is expected to continue with its 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre petrol engines, albeit  with a BS6 upgrade. To know more, head here

Mahindra Alturas BS6 Launched

Mahindra has silently launched the BS6 version of the Alturas in India with prices ranging from Rs 28.69 lakh to Rs 31.69 lakh (ex-showroom, India). This is a price jump of Rs 99,000 over its BS4 counterpart. It retains the 2.2-litre diesel engine with no change in the performance figures: 181PS and 420Nm. Head here to know more.

Shortly after its sister brand Datsun revealed teaser images of the red-GO facelift, Nissan revealed the engine that will be powering the 2020 Nissan Kicks. It will share the Duster Turbo’s BS6-compliant 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 156PS and 254Nm. It will be paired with the X-Tronic CVT automatic transmission which features an 8-step M mode. For more on the 2020 Nissan Kicks, head here.

Skoda Bookings 

Skoda has gone ahead and commenced online bookings for the Karoq, Superb facelift, and BS6 Rapid. All three cars were slated for a launch in late March and April, but have been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Booking amount stands at Rs 25,000 for the BS6 Rapid, and Rs 50,000 for the Superb facelift and the Karoq. Head here for more.

Mahindra BS6 XUV500 and Scorpio Prices Revealed

 

Sources at Mahindra dealerships have revealed the prices for the BS6 XUV500 and the Scorpio. The BS6 XUV500 will face a hike of Rs 28,000 across its variants with the base-spec W3 and the top-spec automatic variants being discontinued. On the other hand, prices for the BS6 Scorpio have been hiked by Rs 60,000. The  base-spec S5 variant’s price is yet to be revealed, but it is likely that it could receive a similar hike. The S3, S7 120PS and S11AWD variants have been discontinued from the lineup.

Mahindra XUV300 Sportz Launch Delay

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Mahindra has revealed that the spicier XUV300 Sportz launch that was slated for April 2020 has been delayed. It features a new BS6-compliant 1.2-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine that develops 130PS of power and 230Nm of torque, 20PS and 30Nm more than the stock petrol model.
