It was recently spotted testing on Indian roads with plenty of camouflage

  • Exterior changes consist of a smoother shoulder line, new headlamps, L-shaped DRLs, and new wheels.
  • Interiors could get subtle tweaks with the addition of a touchscreen infotainment system.
  • It is likely to retain the 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre petrol engine options, albeit with BS6 updates.
  • It is expected to launch later this year at a premium over the current BS4 redi-GO hatchback.
  • It will rekindle its rivalry with the Renault Kwid and Maruti Suzuki S-Presso post launch.

Back in March, a spy shot of a heavily camouflaged redi-GO suggested that Datsun could introduce the BS6 version of its entry-level hatchback with various cosmetic changes to set it apart from the current model which was launched all the way back in 2016. Now, the carmaker has gone ahead and revealed a couple of teaser images of the facelifted hatchback which is slated for a launch later this year. And it is a major update.

The teaser images reveal the redi-GO sporting a blue body shade and retaining its tall-boy body style. But a closer look reveals changes such as a smoother shoulder line compared to its predecessor. Other changes include new headlamps that seem like they’ve been borrowed from the Nissan Leaf, L-shaped DRLs and a swanky new set of wheels. The rear end is yet to be revealed, but spy shots indicate a near identical look to the current model.

Interiors of the redi-GO facelift are still under wraps, but we could expect some bits from its larger sibling, the GO. Other updates could consist of subtle tweaks to the dashboard layout and upholstery with the biggest expected upgrade being the addition of a touchscreen infotainment system. This unit could be the 8-inch Media Nav Evolution infotainment system found in the Renault Triber.

The redi-GO facelift is likely to retain its 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre petrol engines, albeit with BS6 upgrades. Expect near identical performance figures to their BS4 counterparts. The current 0.8-litre motor puts out 54PS and 72Nm, while the 1.0-litre motor develops 68PS and 91Nm. Expect the 5-speed manual and the AMT gearbox exclusive to the 1.0-litre engine to be retained as well.

It is likely that we won’t be waiting very long for the redi-GO facelift to hit Indian showrooms. Expect a premium over its BS4 counterparts that currently retail from Rs. 2.80 lakh to Rs 4.37 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Post launch, it will take on the likes of the Renault Kwid and Maruti Suzuki S-Presso
