Back in 2011, Renault decided to install 60MW solar array on its centres in several locations in France. The purpose of the same was to decrease carbon footprint and to raise public awareness that they care for the environment. Three years down the line the French carmaker has lived up to its public commitment and has successfully achieved its goal of reducing its carbon footprint by 10 per cent.
This policy is part of the Group’s determination to reduce the greenhouse gases (and CO2 in particular) emitted by its products and activities, and to play an active part in the fight against global warming potential worldwide.
The French carmaker has taken efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at various stages in the life- cycle of its products. Renault has encouraged its suppliers and recycling players to increase the use of recycled materials to avoid emissions linked to the production process.
The French carmaker’s constant efforts to use recycled materials has made it a leader in the use of recycled plastics with an average rate of 11 per cent. Renault is reducing the carbon footprint of all its activities. The Group’s plant at Tangiers in Morocco, is designed as a zero-carbon emissions site.
Renault will continue its efforts to achieve its objective of reducing carbon footprint by an average of three per cent a year between 2010 and 2016. In 2013, Renault moved to the top spot in Europe as the carmaker with the lowest CO2 emissions in use, at less than 115g/km of CO2.
