  • The Wrangler 392 Rubicon is the most powerful Wrangler ever.
  • Its 6.4-litre V8 petrol engine develops 470PS and 637Nm.
  • Off-road based upgrades underneath the skin include thicker axles and a Fox suspension with a 5cm lift.
  • India launch unlikely, but we hope Jeep offers at least a few units to satisfy enthusiasts.

Back in July 2020, just a day after the Bronco’s debut, Jeep revealed the Wrangler Rubicon 392 concept with a brute V8 powertrain. We didn’t really think this concept would ever make it to reality, but the folks at Jeep have surprised us by taking the wraps off the production model, which incidentally is the most powerful Wrangler ever built!

It looks similar to the standard model, but how do you know this is the V8-powered Wrangler? The giant hood scoop and the 392 badge on the bonnet are the major giveaways. This variant gets bronze accents, instead of the red or blue found in the other variants. Topping up the updates are the bronze wheels with off-road based tyres.

Even the interior design hasn’t changed much, except for bronze stitching and Rubicon 392 badges on the seats. It comes with 11 extra standard features that are optional on other variants. These include leather interior, body colour hard top and flares, LED lighting, remote proximity entry, and advanced safety features.

Now, on to the Wrangler Rubicon 392’s highlight, its brute 6.4-litre V8 engine develops a strong 470PS and 637Nm. These figures might sound paltry in comparison to a sports car, but it is probably the fastest mode of transport when the road conditions aren’t the most favourable. It does 0-100kmph in 4.5 seconds which is insanely quick for an off-roader. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. It’s not all brutish though with an emphasis on efficiency as well. The new V8 features cylinder deactivation tech that dials four of the cylinders out of the equation during lower load situations to improve fuel economy.

This Wrangler is Trail Rated and it can literally climb over anything. Significant upgrades have been made underneath its skin for improved off-road prowess. For starters, it sits on F-A-T Dana 44 axles and off-road based Fox suspension on a 5cm lift kit. This ensures better approach and departure angles as well as water wading capabilities. The brakes have been upgraded for added stopping power. You also get an electronic locking differential and a front sway bar that can be disconnected for better suspension travel. It also comes with a Tri-level Hydro-Guide air intake system, which channels up to 56 litres of water away from the engine, keeping all crucial components safe while water wading.

Approach Angle

44.5 degrees

Breakover Angle

22.6 degrees

Departure Angle

37.5 degrees

Water Wading Capability

825.5mm

Software-based off-road features include a new off-road plus setting for either Sand or Rock mode. It adjusts the throttle response, engine mapping, and gearbox settings based on the terrain so you can sail through it.

Jeep could possibly bring this model to India considering it imports the Wrangler as a completely built unit. If that does happen, it would be a dream come true for off-road enthusiasts. Fingers crossed.
