Jeep Wrangler Bags Significant Milestone Despite Catering To Niche Demographic

• Jeep Wrangler has recorded 50 lakh sales since its inception in 1986.

The Jeep Wrangler is a moniker that resonates throughout the automotive community, not just for its aura and demeanour, but especially for its literal go-anywhere capabilities. As you can suspect, the Wrangler has been a rather popular model for the Jeep brand, and correspondingly, the carmaker has just announced the sale of the five millionth  Wrangler in New Jersey.

The specific sale to cement this historic milestone edition came in the form of a 2023 Wrangler Rubicon 4xe 20th anniversary Edition, finished in Earl exterior paint, sold in Camden, New Jersey. Interestingly, this feat coincides with the rollout of the facelifted 2024 Wrangler, order books for which are currently open abroad. First introduced in 1986, the Wrangler nameplate has come a long way with constant developments that make each new model even more capable than the one before it. In fact, the Wrangler is already ready for the future, as specific variants like the Rubicon X, which features a plug-in hybrid powertrain. There was even an electric version called the Magneto EV concept, which was teased back in 2021.

The Wrangler sold in India is available with a  2-litre turbo-petrol, which can be had in two variants, Unlimited and Rubicon, the latter being the more superior off-roader of the two. 

The 2024 Wrangler should make its way to India after the launch and deliveries begin in the United States of America (USA) later in 2023. The model sold in India tops out at Rs 64.65 lakh (ex-showroom) and you can expect the new to carry a premium over it. It doesn’t have any direct rivals in India, but it locks horns with the Land Rover Defender in terms of off-road capability.
