The Hyundai Kona Electric rival gets a claimed range of 428 km!

  • To be launched by December 2019 in India.
  • Will be the British marque’s second model for India.
  • Makes 150PS from a 110kW motor
  • Pricing expected to be around Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom).

MG Motor has unveiled its first all-electric SUV, the eZS, globally ahead of its launch in India. Expected to be launched in India by December 2019, the SUV will be one of the first pure-electric SUVs in the country. The British brand is also gearing towards the launch of its upcoming SUV, the Hector, in June 2019.

The British marque is pitching the eZS, first unveiled in China, as the ideal car for customers looking for an electric vehicle with the latest connected features. The all-electric SUV will be powered by a 110kW motor which is claimed to make 150PS and  350Nm of torque, with power sent to the front wheels. Claimed range for the Chinese version is 428km, with 0-50kmph coming up in around 3.1 seconds. Even more interesting is the supposedly 30-minute battery charge time for up to 80 per cent.

The eZS will come with a modern design and is expected to mark the influx of all-electric SUV segment in India. MG is also leaning on the government-announced subsidies and incentives for EVs under the recently announced FAME II scheme. Also on the cards are plans to educate the Indian audiences around EV driving range anxiety and charging infrastructure. As far as features go, the SUV will come equipped with the carmaker’s iSMART system along with built-in Wi-Fi, AI-enabled services, cloud-based services and over-the-air updates. Apart from these features, a panoramic sunroof and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display will also be offered.

When it hits our shores, the all-electric SUV will most likely be assembled from CKD kits and battery packs shipped from China, to keep prices low. The upcoming Nissan Leaf (expected launch March 2020) and Kona Electric from Hyundai ( expected in August 2019) will rival the eZS all-electric SUV. Expect the eZS to be priced around Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom).
