Likely to be launched before Auto Expo 2020

Less than 24 hours remain before Hyundai unveils the new Aura compact sedan in India after a host of teasers, spy shots and design sketches. The Aura, which is powered by three BS6-compliant engines, will be sold alongside the Xcent in the carmaker’s lineup. Likely to launch before Auto Expo 2020. Here’s everything you need to know about the compact sedan ahead of its unveil tomorrow:

Design

Hyundai recently released design sketches of the Aura, which confirm that the compact sedan will take design cues from the Grand i10 Nios hatchback. This includes a front-end that features a cascading grille, projector headlamps, and angular DRLs. The rear features a wraparound tail light design that joins a chrome bar on the boot lid. It will also have its license plate housing at the bumper, similar to the Ford Aspire.

Interiors & Features

Hyundai is yet to reveal what’s inside the Aura, but considering that its exterior design is based on the Grand i10 Nios, expect a similar cabin design. Some carryover bits such as circular air vents and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system could feature in the sedan. The Aura could also be equipped with additional premium equipment since it is a compact sedan.

The Aura will be powered by two petrol engines and a diesel mill -- all BS6 compliant. The first petrol engine will be the 1.2-litre motor from the Grand i10 Nios, which could produce similar power figures as the hatchback’s 83PS/114Nm. The other petrol mill will be the Venue’s 1.0-litre turbocharged engine. However, it is likely to be offered in a detuned state for the Aura. The diesel option consists of a 1.2-litre motor, expected to deliver the same power at 75PS/190Nm as the Xcent despite the BS6 upgrade. Transmission options for all three engines could include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT.

Price

While Hyundai is yet to reveal the price, expect it to be offered at a premium over the Xcent’s Rs 5.81 to 8.70 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) price range . This is owing to its new platform as well as its BS6 upgrade.

Rivals

Once the Aura hits showrooms in India, it will take on the likes of the Honda Amaze and the Volkswagen Ameo. Also, depending on the price tag, the Aura could take on the segment topper, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, owing to the upgrades on the sedan.
