ZW-Hyundai-Aura-Spec-Comparison

Hyundai India has launched the Aura premium sedan at Rs 5.80 lakh. It comes with a long list of features, four BS6 powertrain options, and promises to be high on the premium factor. But are these enough when pitched against the segment leaders, the Maruti Dzire and Honda Amaze? We also pitch in the fun-to-drive Ford Aspire and the enthusiastic Volkswagen Ameo to find out how the Aura fares against its competitors on paper.

The petrol variants of the Aura come with two powertrain options: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine and a 1.0-litre T-GDI engine. The 1.2-litre engine is par for the course when compared to the Dzire and Amaze. However, it falls short when pitched against the Aspire’s rev-happy dragon engine. On the other hand, the Aura T-GDI engine has class-leading torque figures while the Aspire automatic has the best power figures here. The VW Ameo’s 1.0-litre MPI engine develops the least amount of power and torque in this test.

The Volkswagen Ameo and Hyundai Aura T-GDI can’t be had with an automatic gearbox as well. On the other hand, the Aura NA petrol and Dzire come with an AMT while the Aspire and Amaze are offered with a torque converter and CVT respectively.

It must be mentioned that the Aura and Swift are the only BS6-compliant petrol cars in this test. In terms of fuel efficiency, both variants of the Aura return 20.50kmpl, which is a tad less than the Swift. That said, the Hyundai is better than the rest of its competitors.

The Hyundai Aura diesel comes with a BS6-compliant 1.2-litre diesel engine that develops 75PS of power and 190Nm of torque. While power and torque figures are at par when compared with the Dzire DDIS, it falls short against the bigger 1.5-litre units. The VW Ameo develops class-leading figures in this test while the Aspire and Amaze trail behind. Interestingly, the Amaze i-DTEC CVT churns lesser power when compared to its manual sibling.

Barring the Aspire, all diesel sub 4-metre sedans are offered with an automatic transmission. The Aura and Dzire are offered with a low-cost AMT while the Ameo and Amaze comes with a more sophisticated DSG and CVT respectively.

The Hyundai Aura returns 25.35kmpl, which is a tad less when compared to the Maruti Dzire MT, Honda Amaze MT and Ford Aspire MT. That said, it’s the only sub-4 metre diesel sedan that comes with a BS6-compliant diesel engine. On the other hand, the Aura AMT is a tad less fuel efficient than Dzire AMT, but beats the Ameo DSG and Amaze CVT.

The Hyundai Aura has everything needed to set the sales chart on fire. It comes with a lengthy list of features and engine options, and that very important premium factor. Topping the cake is its attractive price tag, which makes it a very good value-for-money proposition. Clearly, Hyundai India has another winner on its hands.
