The new Hyundai Aura compact sedan gets a myriad of new features. Not just that, it even gets a brand new engine. Launched yesterday, it is one of the most well-equipped sub-4m sedans you can buy. It is available in a total of 12 variants. With so many options in the lineup, which Aura is right for you? If your heart is fighting your pocket like ours, read on.

Hyundai Aura comes with three engines, three fuel types, and two transmissions options. The engines offered are 1.2-litre petrol, 1.2-litre diesel, and 1.0-litre turbo petrol. They make 83PS and 114Nm, 75PS and 190Nm, and 110PS and 170Nm, respectively. The CNG variant comes with the 1.2-litre petrol engine, limited to 69PS of power and 95Nm of torque. Along with the 5 trim levels, these make for 12 variant options. Let's take a closer look at the feature distribution. 

Hyundai Aura E 

Powertrains Available: 1.2-litre Petrol MT

The base Aura variant is offered only with the 1.2-litre petrol engine and manual transmission. It will cost you Rs 5.80 lakh*. This trim level gets standard ISOFIX mounts for child seats and government-mandated safety features such as dual front airbags and rear parking sensors. Other features are as follows:

  • Unpainted door handles and outer rearview mirrors (ORVMs)
  •  Chrome garnish on tailgate
  • Micro FM antenna

Interior

  • Manual air conditioner and heater
  • Front power outlets
  • Front power windows
  • Internally adjustable outer rear view mirrors

Hyundai Aura S

Willing to spend a bit more? The next trim level of the Aura adds a smorgasbord of features. You can have the Aura S with the 83PS petrol engine or the diesel or the CNG. They cost Rs 6.56 lakh, Rs 7.74 lakh, and Rs 7.29 lakh, respectively. You can pair the 83PS petrol or diesel motor with an automated manual transmission (AMT), which adds Rs 50,000 to the cost of the car. However, the CNG variant is offered only with a manual. Here’s what this trim adds to the features list:

  • Rear windscreen defogger
  • Follow-me-home headlamps
  • LED DRLs 
  • Body-coloured door mirrors and handles 
  • Honeycomb grille

  • Rear AC vents
  • Rear-only power outlets

  • Rear power windows
  • Tilt-adjustable steering wheel
  • Driver seat height adjustment

  • Day/night inside rearview mirror
  • Speed and impact-sensing door locks
  • Keyless entry

If you get the AMT variant, it comes with larger 15-inch steel wheels. The manual version comes with R14 steel wheels. The AMT variant also gets indicators on the door mirrors and chrome finish on the gear knob. 

Hyundai Aura SX

Powertrain options: 1.2-litre Petrol MT

The SX trim is only available with the 83PS petrol engine and a manual transmission. It costs Rs 7.30 lakh and adds:

Exterior features:

  • 15-inch alloy wheels
  • Chrome outer door handles
  • Turn indicators on ORVMs
  • Electric folding ORVMs

Interior features: 

  • Front passenger seatback pocket
  • Silver finish on inner door handles
  • Chrome finish on the gear knob and parking lever
  • 8-inch touchscreen infotainment, Arkamys audio, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay
  • Voice recognition and its steering-mounted button
  • Push-button start and stop
  • Passenger vanity mirror
  • Front and rear power outlets
  • Luggage compartment lamp

Hyundai Aura SX(O)

Powertrain Options: 1.2-litre petrol MT, diesel MT

The Aura SX(O) is offered only with a manual transmission, but both petrol and diesel variants are available. They are priced at Rs 7.86 lakh and Rs 9.04 lakh, respectively. They come with the following additional features:

Interior 

  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob
  • Automatic climate control with eco-coating
  • Wireless phone charger

Hyundai Aura SX+

Powertrain Options: 1.2-litre petrol and diesel AMT, 1.0-litre T-GDI MT

The SX+ trim gets you an AMT gearbox with either the diesel or petrol engine. The former costs Rs 9.23 lakh, while the latter is priced at Rs 8.05 lakh. This is what you get for your money:

Exterior 

  • Projector headlamps

Interior 

  • Automatic climate control with eco-coating
  • Wireless phone charger

It misses out on the leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob. 

Aura SX+: The Enthusiast’s Choice

Powertrain Options: 1.0-litre T-GDI MT

If your heart’s set on an Aura and you love to drive, then the turbo petrol engine is what you should be looking at. A five-speed manual is your only transmission choice. It costs Rs 8.55 lakh and is only available in the SX+ trim level with the following unique additions:

Exterior 

  • Gloss-black radiator grille

Interior 

  • Black interiors with red inserts
  • Dark-grey inner door handles

  • Dark-grey radiator grille
