The XUV300 Sportz is powered by a new turbo-petrol heart called the mStallion. It’s a BS6-compliant 1.2-litre unit that develops 130PS of power and 230Nm of torque, making it 20PS and 30Nm more powerful than the existing XUV300’s turbo-petrol engine. Speaking of which, the standard XUV300 will continue to utilise the existing 110PS MPFI turbo-petrol engine. The XUV300 Sportz can be had with a 6-speed manual. An AMT is expected to join the line later.

Other SUVs that offer a turbo-petrol motor in the segment include the Tata Nexon and the Hyundai Venue. Ford recently pulled the plug on the acclaimed 1.0-litre Ecoboost engine in the EcoSport. However, the Ford SUV will soon get the same heart as the XUV300 Sportz later this year as part of its joint venture with Mahindra. Meanwhile, the long time king of the segment, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, has lost its 1.3-litre diesel motor in favour of a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol motor to comply with upcoming emission norms.
