Suzuki Unveils A New V-Strom 1050 With A Fresh Look For Next Year

The new models from EICMA 2019 keep rolling in and the latest one is from Suzuki. The Japanese manufacturer has just unveiled its new V-Strom 1050 and V-Strom 1050XT models in Milan. These will now be Suzuki’s flagship adventure tourers. While the standard 1050 is more street-focused and gets alloy wheels, the XT rolls on wire-spoke wheels and is more off-road oriented. Wheel sizes are 19-inches at the front and 17-inches at the rear on both variants, and the wire-spoke wheels on the XT have tubless tyre-compatible rims.

The 1050s are based on the current V-Strom 1000 and use the same 1037cc V-twin motor which now gets ride-by-wire technology. While power has increased slightly to 107.4PS, torque has marginally reduced and now stands at exactly 100Nm. The engine now complies with Euro 5 emission norms and hence we should see this model make its way to India sometime next year.

The updated engine is also accompanied by a new electronics suite, christened Suzuki Intelligent Ride System or SIRS. This suite includes traction control, riding modes and load-dependent ABS. The XT variant also gets cruise control and hill-hold control. The lack of a TFT scren is a disappointment, and Suzuki has given the 1050s a fully-digital LCD instrument cluster on both variants to help control all these electronic aids. Other features exclusive to the XT include an adjustable seat and screen.

In terms of appearance, the 1050s get all-new styling featuring an LED headlight, short beak fender and tall front screen. The overall design harks back to the old Suzuki DR Big, with meaty tank extensions and an imposing stance. Both variants get a fully-adjustable upside-down front fork from KYB and preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear. Braking is taken care of by radially-mounted Tokico monobloc calipers up front, biting down on twin 310mm discs.

Pricing has not yet been announced, but the V-Strom 1000 currently sells in India for Rs 13.45 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). When the 1050s arrive next year, we can expect a price hike of approximately Rs 1 lakh for the standard variant, with the XT setting you back by a further Rs 50,000 to 1 lakh. Suzuki's flagship adventure tourer will take on the likes of the Honda Africa Twin, BMW R 1250 GS and Triumph Tiger 800 XCx once it reaches our shores.
