The Access was the scooter of choice for anyone looking for a larger scooter than the readily available 110cc options like the Activa or the TVS Jupiter. Plus, it was one of the few scooters that offered front telescopic suspension and was also quite affordable. But it had been an ageing design not to mention the advent of the Honda Activa125 seriously raised the competition bar. Suzuki unveiled its new product at the 2016 Auto Expo and is due to be launched tomorrow. So here are six major changes on the new Access compared to the older one.
Retro Styling:
The biggest and most noticeable change on the Access is its styling which has gotten a serious upgrade. It now features a completely redesigned front cowl with a larger redesigned headlamps and clear turn indicators along with redesigned side panels. The instrument cluster too is brand new and goes quite well with the overall retro feel of the scooter.
SEP technology:
The new Access125 will now feature Suzuki’s SEP or Suzuki Eco Performance technology. This is a standard on most Suzuki two-wheelers and now will be fitted to the Access as well. The engineers have fiddled around with the engine, mainly the piston and piston rings to optimize air and fuel flow and reduce frictional losses resulting in better performance and better fuel economy.
Front disc brake:
Suzuki will also be offering the Access125 with a front disc brake to optimize braking performance thereby contributing to better safety.
LED tail lamps:
The Access also features LED tail lamps for better illumination and to be honest, LEDs look way better than conventional bulbs not to mention the sheer life span of them which outlasts the traditional bulb by three to four times.
Alloy wheels:
This is the first time that Suzuki will be offering a scooter fitted with alloy wheels. The Access will sport 12-inch alloy wheels which should make the scooter better to ride and the increased wheel size should contribute to better ride and handling as well.
Competition:
Suzuki was the only one that offered a 125cc scooter option in the market until the new Honda Activa 125 came along. Now Suzuki has a tough competitor which could result into an uphill battle but having said that, the Access is now much better equipped than it ever was for such a face-off. The only question remains is that of the price. With pricing expected to be around Rs 54,000 ex-showroom Delhi, the Access should make quite a case for itself.
