Maruti’s latest SUV joins the hotly contested compact SUV club, with a 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP

Meet Maruti Victoris, The Carmaker’s New Compact SUV Unveiled With highlights

Maruti has taken the wraps off the Victoris, its brand-new Arena flagship compact SUV, and this one’s a big deal. It slots right between the Brezza and the Grand Vitara and comes packing petrol, strong-hybrid and even CNG options. Oh, and here’s the headline grabber -  it’s scored a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating. On top of that, it’s also Maruti’s first car to get ADAS. It comes in six broad variants: Lxi, Vxi, Zxi, Zxi(O), Zxi Plus and Zxi (O) Plus. Here's everything you need to know about the new Maruti SUV contender:

Design

The Victoris looks every bit the modern SUV Maruti wanted it to be. Up front, you get a sleek chrome-lined grille, sharp LED headlamps placed under slim pixel-style DRLs, and a chunky bumper with layered black inserts and a silver skid plate. It’s futuristic without being over the top.

From the side, it sits on 17-inch dual-tone alloys, with squared-off wheel arches wrapped in black cladding for that SUV stance. A sloping roofline, black ORVMs, roof rails and a floating roof effect thanks to darkened pillars add a touch of sportiness.

At the back, the pixel-patterned connected LED tail-lamps and silver skid plate finish off the design neatly.

Features & Safety

Inside, the Victoris feels properly premium and tech-loaded. It gets a large touchscreen infotainment system teamed with a 10.25-inch fully digital driver’s display, while wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay keep it connected. A panoramic sunroof opens up the cabin, and features like 64-colour ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, a wireless charger and auto AC with rear vents make sure comfort is well taken care of.

On the safety side, Maruti hasn’t held back either. Six airbags come as standard, you also get a 360-degree camera, and the Victoris is the first Maruti to pack Level-2 ADAS features. Combine that with its 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, and you’re looking at one of the safest SUVs Maruti has ever built.

Powertrain

The Victoris borrows its powertrain lineup straight from the Grand Vitara, so you’re looking at three options:

Engine

1.5-litre mild hybrid petrol engine

1.5-litre strong hybrid engine

1.5-litre petrol+CNG option

Transmission

5-speed manual / 6-speed automatic

e-CVT

5-speed manual

Power

103 PS

116 PS (combined)

88 PS

Torque

137 Nm

141 Nm (Hybrid)

121.5 Nm

It’s also the first Maruti to use an underbody CNG setup, which is clever because it frees up more boot space than the regular CNG kits.

Rivals

With everything it packs, the Maruti Victoris goes right up against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and the rest of India’s most competitive SUV segment.
