Limited to the top-end ZXi + and ZXi + (O) variants, here’s what each ADAS feature in the Maruti Victoris does

Maruti Victoris ADAS Explained

Maruti has introduced the Victoris, its second compact SUV positioned above the Grand Vitara. Alongside its design and lengthy list of features, the Victoris also brings in a suite of Level-2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), which is a first for a Maruti car. These features are aimed at enhancing safety during your drives. Here’s a closer look at each ADAS feature the Victoris gets.

Adaptive Cruise Control

With the level-2 ADAS, the Victoris gets adaptive cruise control. This system maintains a set speed like regular cruise control but goes a step further by automatically adjusting speed to keep a safe pre-set distance from the vehicle ahead. On highways, it makes long drives less stressful by managing acceleration and braking on its own, though drivers should always stay alert.

Lane Keep Assist

Lane keep assist helps keep the Victoris centred within its lane. The ADAS system detects lane markings, and applies steering input if the vehicle begins to drift. It is particularly useful on highway speeds, but needs clear road markings to function effectively.

Lane Departure Prevention

The Victoris is equipped with Lane Departure Prevention, a system that intervenes by gently steering the SUV back into position if it begins to drift out of its lane. It works as a corrective measure, adding an extra layer of safety.

Lane Departure Warning

Before prevention kicks in, the lane departure warning system in the Victoris alerts the driver through visual or audible signals when the vehicle is trying to leave its lane. It is designed to grab attention so corrective action can be taken quickly. If it continues to veer away, the lane keep assist will kick in to centre the vehicle back in its lane.

Vehicle Sway Warning

The Victoris is also equipped with Vehicle Sway Warning, a feature that monitors steering behaviour and alerts the driver if it detects signs of erratic or drowsy driving. It proves most effective on long highway runs where fatigue can set in.

Automatic Emergency Braking

In the Victoris, automatic emergency braking activates when the system detects a potential frontal collision. It applies the brakes automatically to avoid the impact. While it cannot replace human reflexes, it serves as an important backup in emergencies.

High Beam Assist

Night driving becomes easier with this feature, which automatically switches between high and low beams depending on traffic. It ensures optimal visibility without dazzling oncoming drivers as well.

Rear Cross Traffic Alert

The Victoris is equipped with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, which uses sensors to detect vehicles approaching from either side while reversing. It proves especially useful in tight parking spaces or when visibility is blocked.

Forward Collision Warning

In the Victoris, forward collision warning alerts the driver if a frontal collision seems likely. The system gives you enough time to brake or steer clear, making it particularly helpful in bumper-to-bumper city traffic. And once again, if the driver doesn’t react and the car detects a possible collision, the autonomous emergency braking system will kick in.

Blind Spot Monitor With Lane Change Alert

The Victoris features a Blind Spot Monitor with Lane Change Alert. It uses sensors and cameras to track vehicles approaching from behind and warns the driver if there is a vehicle in the driver’s blind spot.

Other Features

In terms of convenience, the Victoris comes packed with a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Android Auto/ Apple CarPlay, 10.25-inch digital driver display, panoramic sunroof, and automatic climate control. Other safety equipment includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, a 360-degree camera, and electronic stability control.

Powertrain Options

Maruti offers the Victoris with the same engine choices as the Grand Vitara. These include a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine that produces 103 PS and 137 Nm, paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. It can be had with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive option, the latter being limited to the automatic gearbox.

The Victoris is also available with the 1.5-litre strong-hybrid unit, that delivers a combined 116 PS and 141 Nm, mated only with an e-CVT gearbox driving the front wheels.

There’s also a CNG option which can be configured with the 1.5-litre mild-hybrid engine, that puts out 88 PS and 121.5 Nm in CNG mode, and is available only with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Together, these three options cater to a wide spectrum of buyers, from those looking for everyday usability to those focused on fuel savings.

Priced from Rs 10.50 lakh (ex-showroom), the Victoris competes with models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, VW Taigun, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Skoda Kylaq.

ZigSays…

The Maruti Victoris offers driver assistance features that the Grand Vitara does not. While these systems cannot replace driver attention, they can help reduce fatigue and provide timely support in demanding situations. Combined with its design and feature-loaded cabin, the Victoris does seem like a promising alternative to the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
