This Chinese Scrambler Is the Yamaha XSR155’s Worst Nightmare

Zontes Motorcycles, a Chinese bike maker, has launched the ZT155G scrambler in the Malaysian market. With the world smitten with neo-retro motorcycles, Zontes’ new motorcycle joins the popular genre, and has its sights on the Yamaha XSR155.

Zontes is one of those rare Chinese brands whose designs are original... to an extent, and that continues with the ZT155G. The bike has a tasteful blend of retro elements like the circular bar-end mirrors, a circular headlight and a muscular fuel tank along with neoteric bits like LED illumination, alloy wheels, a digital dash and an underbelly exhaust. Lastly, the bright yellow paint adds to the retro charm of the motorcycle.

The Zontes ZT155G is powered by a 155cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine developing 18.8PS at 9250rpm and 16Nm at 7500rpm. For reference, the Yamaha XSR155 develops 19.3PS and 14.7Nm.

Zontes’ scrambler rides on a USD fork and a monoshock. For braking, the Chinese bike maker has used disc brakes at both ends backed by the safety net of ABS. The ZT155G rides on 17-inch alloy wheels shod with block-pattern tyres, like one would expect from a bike of this genre.

For those who wish to venture beyond the beaten path with the ZT155G, can do so without worrying about the damage. Zontes has equipped the bike with heavy crash protection. Its 20-litre fuel capacity means you can do some serious mile-munching on this bike. And despite all this, the Zontes ZT155G tips the scales at 117kg, which is 17kg lighter than the XSR155.

The Zontes ZT155G has been priced at MYR 9,800 which translates to roughly Rs 1.75 lakh. The chances of this bike coming to India are bleak, but given that the Zontes 310X was spotted in India, the possibility cannot be ruled out.
