The Skoda Octavia RS is a car that needs no introduction. Right from when it was first launched in India back in 2004, it has been the go-to performance sedan for enthusiasts who want an overall strong package of performance and handling, along with practicality well-suited for family needs. The Octavia RS has once again made a comeback in India in its fourth generation as a CBU model, priced at Rs 49.99 lakhs (ex-showroom). However, only 100 units were allocated for India for the year 2025, and the entire batch was sold out almost instantly. 

In this article, we break down the pros and cons of the Octavia RS to understand what continues to make it such a favourite among all enthusiasts, and where it shows its limitations. 

Exterior

Pros: The exterior design of the Skoda Octavia RS, like the previous generations, combines a perfect blend of elegance and aggression. In fact, it looks very similar to the standard Octavia. The clean body lines give it a timeless design style, while the RS-specific details add a bold, sporty touch. The front features a gloss-black butterfly grille with the RS badge, sleek dual-pod Matrix LED headlights, and V-shaped DRLs. On the side, it sits close to the ground with 19-inch aero-style alloy wheels, complemented by red brake callipers. Moving towards the rear, it gets LED taillights, gloss-black lip spoiler, and functional dual exhaust tips. All of this completes the classy design, which also focuses on performance. 

Cons: The Skoda Octavia RS looks like a proper sports sedan with all its sporty highlights, but that also means that it sits closer to the ground, which causes a practical issue. Tall speed bumps, uneven roads, and steep parking ramps can be a challenge, especially when driving on Indian roads. You will often need to slow down a lot or take awkward angles to avoid scraping the bottom.

Pros: The Skoda Octavia RS is a performance-oriented sedan, but Skoda has thought well of practicality and ergonomics so that it remains usable in everyday use as well. It gets a massive boot of 600 litres that can easily carry multiple family suitcases and bags, and the rear seats offer ample space for two adults and a child. The cabin gets an all-black colour theme with red highlights, RS sport seats, Suedia-finished dashboard, and aluminium pedals. Being a Skoda, it gets those “simply clever” touches, which include multiple storage areas, umbrella holders, door-bin waste containers, and a double-sided boot mat. Overall, it combines both performance and practicality to appeal to a larger audience.

Pros: Skoda has loaded the Octavia RS with a ton of features, primarily to justify its high price. The dashboard features a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment screen and a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster with all the details for the driver. It also gets a heads-up display and multi-colour ambient lighting. The front seats are electrically adjustable with memory settings and also offer heating and massaging functions. The car also comes equipped with three-zone climate control, heated ORVMs and adjustable headrests for all passengers  

For the convenience counterpart, the Octavia RS comes equipped with features like keyless entry, a 15W wireless smartphone charger with a cooling pad, a gesture-controlled powered tailgate, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, and an 11-speaker Canton audio system. Safety of occupants is ensured with 10 airbags, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, and TPMS. The Skoda Octavia RS packs in both technology and comfort, along with its sporty appeal, which enhances the overall ownership experience. 

Powertrain And Drive

Pros: Powering the Skoda Octavia RS is a strong 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that pushes out 265 PS and 370 Nm, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox (DSG), it can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 6.4 seconds! The top speed of the car is, however, limited to 250 kmph. All this performance is further complemented by progressive steering, a firm suspension setup, and a tuned exhaust, which enables the Octavia RS to be a great highway mile muncher and tackle corners with confidence and ease, and not to forget the smile it will bring to your face when you push it hard. 

The Skoda Octavia RS is a front-wheel-driven performance sedan, but don’t underestimate it. The car handles very well. The response from the recalibrated steering wheel is sharp and accurate, and it communicates very well with the driver, which makes it easier to place the car through corners. Body roll is very well contained, thanks to the stiff suspension setup oriented towards sporty performance. This makes the price tag of the Octavia RS harder to justify.

The Skoda Octavia RS takes on the likes of the newly launched Volkswagen Golf GTI and the Mini Countryman JCW. Being a performance sedan, it serves as a strong alternative to its competitors with its agile handling and planted high-speed manners. Another way in which the Octavia RS stands out from its rivals is that it offers a much better package of space, comfort, practicality and performance, something which is appreciated by enthusiasts looking for a fast yet family-friendly car.

It is fast, confident around corners and simply clever in terms of practicality and ergonomics. It does have the potential to become your single-car garage. But it does come at a premium, is very exclusively available, and you will have to slow down very often to save its bottom from getting scratched. Taking all the positive and negative factors into consideration, the Skoda Octavia RS is still one of the best options in the market, with very few rivals that can serve as both a family car and a tuned track car.
