You don’t buy these cars for the features, but they’re exactly what makes them even more irresistible

Octy RS vs GTI

The Skoda Octavia RS and Volkswagen Golf GTI are among the most desirable and popular cars among enthusiasts. The VW Golf is the definition of a hot hatch, while the Octavia RS blends both performance and comfort into a single package. Both cars have built a cult following of enthusiasts who appreciate their blend of power, practicality, and premium features.

In this article, we won’t be comparing their features, but rather take you through the extra features that the Octavia RS offers over the Golf GTI. Let’s begin…

Extra Airbags

While both the Skoda Octavia RS and the Volkswagen Golf GTI boast solid five-star Euro NCAP safety ratings, the Octavia RS edges ahead with its extra airbags.

The Golf GTI offers 7 airbags, while the Octavia RS comes with 10 airbags. These extra 3 airbags not only look good on paper, but will also provide extra protection during an unforeseen and unfortunate situation. The Octy consists of 2 front + 1 driver's knee + 1 front centre + 2 front side + 2 rear side + 2 curtain airbags.

A Better Sound System

A key area where Octavia RS outperforms the Golf GTI is in its audio experience. While the Golf GTI’s standard audio setup is decent and would suffice most buyers, the Skoda sedan’s system is simply superior in overall output and quality. It comes with an 11-speaker Canton audio system, along with a subwoofer.

Whether you’re cruising down the highway or driving through the ghats, the Canton system ensures every beat hits perfectly. For those who see driving as a sensory experience rather than just a commute, the Octavia RS’s sound system alone can be a game-changer.

A 360-degree Camera

This is another area where Skoda takes the upper hand. The Octavia RS comes equipped with a 360-degree camera system, offering a complete view of the surroundings during parking or tight maneuvers.

The Golf GTI, while equipped with a decent rearview camera and parking sensors, doesn’t always offer a full 360 setup, forcing you to be a little more cautious about what’s around the car.

That being said, the Octy would still feel a bit intimidating to park, but its surround view camera will definitely make things a bit easier. On the other hand, the absence of a 360-degree camera on a Rs 50 lakh car feels wrong.

Powered Seats with Massage Function

The Octavia RS is not just about going fast, and features like powered seats and massage functions prove that. So when you want to drive in a relaxed manner, you can use the massage function. Finding your ideal seat position is also easy with powered seats. Sadly, the Golf GTI misses out on both these features and gets manual adjustment for the seats, which again, at this price point, feels unacceptable.

That being said, both cars get sports seats that are sculpted for support, with excellent bolstering that holds you firmly through corners, yet they don’t sacrifice comfort on long drives.

Skoda Octavia RS

Park Assist

Parallel parking a 250+ horsepower sedan in tight city spaces can be nerve-racking, but the Octavia RS’s Park Assist feature takes care of that with impressive precision. The system automatically steers the car into a parking spot, whether parallel or perpendicular.

The smaller Golf GTI doesn’t come with any park assist features, which means you have to rely on your parking skills solely.

So with a 360-degree camera and a park assist feature, the Octavis RS clearly makes life easier for those who spend time behind the wheel.

Head-Up Display

Fast cars with a head-up display just seem like a match made in heaven. The Octy RS gets a Head-Up Display (HUD) which projects key driving information, including speed, navigation, driver assistance alerts, and more. This allows drivers to stay focused on the road ahead rather than glancing down at the instrument cluster.

Both cars have the same 10.25-inch digital cockpit that offers excellent instrumentation, but the addition of a proper HUD in the Octavia RS adds a more premium, driver-centric feel.

Bonus: Simply Clever Skoda Feature

Skoda doesn’t hold back in giving buyers subtle, clever features that complement the brand’s “Simply Clever” tagline. These include thoughtful features like an umbrella stored in the door, double-sided carpet in the boot, and button-operating folding of rear backrests from the boot.

These small touches may seem trivial on paper, but they perfectly display the Skoda philosophy. Also, once you start living with the car, you might actually start appreciating these minor features.

ZigSays…

The Skoda Octavia RS is more than just a performance variant of a family sedan. It’s a complete package that blends power, practicality, and premium comfort in one cohesive design. While the Volkswagen Golf GTI remains the more performance-focused iconic hot hatch, the Octavia RS stands as its more mature, feature-rich sibling, the one that’s just as capable on a twisty road but also infinitely more comfortable for the daily grind.

With more airbags for safety, a superior Canton sound system, a 360-degree camera for added convenience, and even powered seats with massage for long drives, the Octavia RS proves that you don’t have to choose between excitement and comfort and that you can have both.

So if you just need a car for yourself, then the Golf might just be the one. However, if you want something more family-friendly and a better all-rounder, then the Octavia RS should be considered.
