The EV sibling of the XC90 is expectedly priced at a premium, which, in this instance, is Rs 28 lakh more in comparison.
Being the EV sibling, the EX90 expectedly borrows many of its design cues from the XC90. However, it’s not just an adaptation to electrification. The EX90 has its own design language with a closed-off grille, a large Volvo iron mark, and Thor’s hammer LED DRLs that open up to reveal the LED headlamps.

The EX90 rides on large 21-inch alloy wheels that do a good job of filling up the wheel arches. The side profile has sophisticated and neatly designed proportions for a full-sized SUV.

At the back, the EX90 gets the C-shaped LED tail lamps and additional lighting elements on the D-pillar. Lower down, the EX90 carries a bold look yet also has a simplistic design.

The EX90 is available in 6 colour options: Denim Blue, Sand Dune, Mulberry Red, Vapour Grey, Onyx Black and Crystal White.
We like the Sand Dune, which goes well with the minimalist design and carries the subtle modern- luxury look.
The EX90 comes with the Scandinavian luxury quotient we’ve come to expect from Volvo.

Step inside, and you will find a minimalist cabin with a large infotainment touchscreen, a smaller driver’s display and an overall lack of any physical controls, which makes the cabin feel very futuristic.

The luxury SUV comes only with a six-seater layout. Meanwhile, what elevates the ambience inside is the electrochromic roof that changes opacity as per the need to block out the harsh sun. Both also offer the new steering wheel that debuted on the EX30.
The new EX90 features a large, vertical 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, running on Google’s operating system.

The sound system is a 25-speaker Bowers and Wilkins speaker system with Dolby Atmos support. The driver also gets a 9-speaker digital instrument display. Other notable features include powered, ventilated and massaging front seats, powered rear seats, four-zone climate control, powered tailgate and wireless chargers.
The new EX90 packs in 9 airbags, a 360-degree camera, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), rain-sensing wipers, hill hold control (HHC), an electric parking brake (EPB), electronic stability control (ESC), front and rear parking sensors and a 360-degree camera.

It also comes with Level-2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). The EX90 has also scored 5 stars in the Euro NCAP safety tests.
Powering the EX90 is a twin-motor setup paired with a 106 kWh battery pack. Drivetrain specifications are as follows:
|
Battery Pack |
106 kWh |
|
Range (WLTP) |
625 km |
|
Power |
456 PS |
|
Torque |
670 Nm |
|
Claimed acceleration |
5.5 seconds |
The battery pack has 350 kW DC fast-charging capability and is capable of charging from 10 to 80 per cent in 22 minutes.
The EX90 will rival the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and Kia EV9. It will also rival the upcoming Range Rover Electric.
Volvo has been among the silent luxury brands in India. It has been for those who look for understated luxury and sophistication without the flashiness of the Germans.
And with the new EX90, the luxury quotient is elevated thanks to the smoothness of the electric powertrain and the effortless torque. Moreover, the tax benefits of buying an EV make it even more attractive for many business owners.
The new EX90 does miss out on a few features like rear window shades and rear seat ventilation. However, the build quality, NVH, and comfort make up for the luxury quotient of the EX90.
