Skoda has gone ahead and unveiled the car many Indian car enthusiasts have been hoping for for years. The iconic Skoda Superb is making a return after a hiatus of three years, but that’s not the most highlighted part. This time, it will be coming with a 2-litre TDI powertrain. Yes, a diesel engine in the Superb. We are seeing a Skoda model in India with a diesel engine after 6 years. Skoda has announced that the Superb will hit the market by June 2027.
Though the final Indian specification has not been confirmed, let’s explore the unveiled Superb in detail.
The Superb, though being a low-slung and long sedan, always commanded good road presence in India. The sophisticated styling makes heads turn, and one realises that this is no common sedan.

The front end of the new Superb carries the quintessential Skoda styling. A long bonnet, with sharp vertical character lines leading to the Skoda badge on the front. The Superb does not follow the current trend of connected LED DRLs. However, the sleek LED headlamp clusters sit neatly on either side of the Skoda butterfly grille. The lower half of the fascia includes an air dam and the air curtains on the corners of the bumper. The subtle silver accent on the bumper adds a classy character to the Superb’s face.

The silhouette of the Superb is a typical full-size sedan with the simplistic yet long character lines running across the length of the car. The 18-inch alloy wheels are shaped like a turbine and give a rich look to the Superb.

Meanwhile, the rear end of the Superb continues to maintain the minimalist design thanks to the slim LED tail lamps and the overall simple look to the rear end. Meanwhile, the rear bumper houses the parking sensors and the reflectors.
The Superb, being a flagship Skoda, shares plenty of similarities with the Kodiaq.

The multi-layered dashboard has the massive floating 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment sitting in the centre. Unlike many modern cars today, the climate controls of the Superb have rotary dials and buttons, which make them feel natural to operate. In fact, the centre dial is a multi-function unit and can control even the infotainment system and drive modes.

The Cognac and black interior, along with the generously used leatherette in the interior, make the Superb’s cabin feel premium. The space inside is lavish, and so is the feature set.
The Superb, being the flagship Skoda, is loaded with features like a large 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. You also get a 12-speaker Canton sound system, ventilated, heated and powered front seats with a massage function, connected car technology, three-zone climate control, and a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display.

The safety package includes ten airbags, ABS with EBD, Level-2 ADAS, electronic stability control (ESC), a 360-degree camera, hill-hold assist (HHA), and an electronic parking brake (EPB). It has also been crash tested by Euro NCAP and has secured a 5-star safety rating.
One of the highlights of the 2026 Superb in India is the engine. The 2-litre diesel engine which will be paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It’s a after a 6-year hiatus we are getting to see a VAG car with a diesel in India. Powertrain details are as follows:

The Skoda Superb has only one direct rival – The Toyota Camry. Though these sit right alongside each other, the Camry offers a petrol-strong hybrid powertrain as opposed to the Superb’s diesel powertrain.
You can also consider it as an alternative to luxury sedans such as the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, and BMW 3 Series.
The Skoda Superb comes at a time when we see a slew of SUVs being launched this year. Skoda has been teasing the Superb diesel’s arrival for more than a year, and it has been unveiled now. Though it is news that Skoda has brought a diesel back after almost 6 years, this is not a sign of more coming, but only a reminder of the glory days of the past when the Rapid and Vento diesels used to be great mile-munchers and enthusiast cars. However, expect this to come at a steep price if you want to buy a brand-new Skoda TDI in India today.
