The Altroz facelift has been completely unveiled ahead of its May 22 launch. While the outgoing model was fairly well-equipped, Tata has taken the styling elements and equipment list to a whole new level, a premium one.
The Hyundai i20 is the Altroz’s key rival and one of the most well-packaged premium hatchbacks in the segment. In this report, we take you through the 7 things that the facelifted Tata hatchback provides over its Korean rival:
Starting with the new design elements, the Altroz gets flush-fitted door handles, which add to its premium appeal, and they look neatly integrated. The i20, on the other hand, comes equipped with conventional door handles. While some still prefer the conventional design, the flush handles definitely make the hatchback look like it belongs to a segment above.
Are you someone who likes to keep up with the latest trends? If yes, then you would probably like this design element. We have seen connected tail lights on many new and modern cars, and the trendy feature has made its way to the upgraded Altroz. As per the first few images, the connected lighting setup of the Altroz doesn't look too polarising and goes well with the overall design.
Well, it’s not really a feature, but a cool thing to have! The Altroz facelift gets a new steering wheel with the illuminated Tata logo, something that we have already seen on the Tata Nexon and Curvv. Hyundai decides to keep things conventional in this aspect.
Moving on to the features that really matter. A 360-degree camera is something that truly gives the Tata hatchback an edge over the i20. The i20 gets a basic reverse parking camera, which gets the job done but lacks the convenience factor of a 360-degree camera. The Altroz’ surround camera makes parking a whole lot easier and will also help you in getting a better judgment of your car’s four corners.
The i20 comes with a semi-digital driver's display, while the Altroz sports a large 10.25-inch fully digital driver’s display. The Altroz’s display provides you with more controls and is also capable of projecting the map on the display so that the driver does not have to rely on the infotainment system. The large display also makes the cabin look more upmarket and premium.
The Altroz comes with an air purifier that provides cleaner and fresher air for the passengers. With air quality dropping in most places, a feature like an air purifier proves to be essential and is definitely a feature that most buyers would want in their car.
While Hyundai also offers Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, it is not wireless like the one on the Altroz. However, Hyundai has introduced a new accessory package wherein you can get a 10-inch infotainment system along with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a reverse parking camera at an additional Rs 15,000.
The Altroz facelift is expected to start from Rs 7 lakh (ex-showroom). The i20 currently ranges between Rs 7.04 lakh and Rs 11.25 lakh.
With the Altroz facelift, Tata will be offering some new design elements that none of the rivals come with. The modern styling bits combined with a feature-rich cabin truly make the Altroz a very compelling option. The i20 is also a very well-packaged hatchback, but is clearly slightly behind in terms of equipment when you compare it with the Altroz. Hyundai recently updated the variants of the i20, check out this report to know more.
