Hyundai Creta Completes 10 Years in India. Here’s Why This Is highlights

The Hyundai Creta needs no introduction, as it has clearly redefined the compact SUV space in India, offering buyers a practical SUV that is also very well-equipped. Compared to its first commercial year (2016) when 92,926 units were sold, the Creta’s sales have, over the years, doubled, with almost 1.87 lakh units being sold in 2024. Overall, more than 1.2 million units of the Creta have been sold in India since its inception.

It is the top-selling SUV ever since its launch in 2015, and also the best-selling SUV in 2025. The percentage of contribution of first-time buyers has doubled in 2024, when compared to 2020. Moreover, Hyundai also exports the made-in-India Creta to over 13 countries.

Ok, enough with the numbers and stats! Let’s take a look at what makes the Creta so popular…

Always Up To Date And Well-equipped!

Hyundai really found a success formula in 2015, when the automaker launched the Creta in India with a package that no other carmaker offered. With the Indian buyer shifting from a sedan to an SUV, the Creta proved to be the go-to option with its feature-packed cabin and high ground clearance providing confidence to the drivers, over our not-so-good road conditions.

Over the period of 10 years, the Creta has never felt outdated or under-equipped even after so many new rivals have come up and populated the compact SUV space in India. Hyundai has always been quick to update the SUV whenever needed, catering to the needs of the modern-day buyer. While its styling, especially that of the second-generation model, raised a few questions, its equipment list and tech-savvy cabin have always been on point.

The buyers want features, and Hyundai has never backed down in that department. The Creta comes loaded with all your modern-day amenities such as a panoramic sunroof, a premium sound system, dual-zone climate control, 6 airbags, dual 10.25-inch displays and even level-2 ADAS.

So Many Options, Within The Nameplate!

The SUV market became sportier around the turn of the decade, probably post-COVID. We got the sporty-looking Volkswagen Taigun GT and Skoda Kushaq Monte Carlo, and even the Kia Seltos GT Line and X-Line had the sportiness quotient. So for the younger buyers, and for those who want some more excitement, Hyundai introduced the Creta N Line in 2024. It came with all the features of the regular version, but with bespoke styling tweaks and mechanical upgrades that made it a more fun iteration. Moreover, it also introduced a manual transmission with the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, a delight for enthusiasts.

In 2025, we got the Creta Electric, which took the successful Creta recipe into the EV space. So for those of you who want the versatility of a Creta in an EV form, the Creta Electric fulfils your needs. While it might be too familiar for some, its necessary design tweaks and commendable EV specifications give it its own identity.

So you now have the regular Creta available with both NA petrol and turbo-petrol, as well as a diesel unit, a sportier N Line version that offers a manual with the top-spec petrol option, and an EV version for those who want an eco-friendly option. It is also important to note that the ICE-powered Creta comes with manual, automatic as well and iMT to choose from. With so many options available, there is something for everyone, and that definitely helps in attracting a diverse range of customers.

The Trust Factor!

Trust is an important factor when you are a car brand, and the Creta has clearly gained the trust of the common Indian buyer. While its familiarity and not-so-exciting drive dynamics might not make it the most exciting option in the segment, its image and overall perception among buyers are such that you can’t go wrong with a Creta if you decide to pick one.

From your relatives to your friend circle, someone or the other has definitely owned a Creta in which you might have spent a lot of time. So with happy customers and memorable experiences already created, the Creta becomes an automatic option when you decide to purchase a compact SUV. Apart from the trust created by the SUV, Hyundai’s image of offering reliable cars and a wide network across the country, further instils confidence among buyers.

For The Family, And India!

The Creta is for everyone in your family! Its massive panoramic sunroof will keep the kids entertained, while the comfortable seats and easy ingress and egress will make sure that elders are comfortable. While it is not a complete performance package, the N Line is for those who want some level of excitement while having the practicality of a comfortable SUV. So if you have a family of 5 members, the Creta serves as an option that is hard to look past. If you want an SUV for 7 people, Hyundai offers the Alcazar, which is a Creta XL in many ways!

The Creta is simply tuned for India. Its soft and comfortable suspension offers the smoothness that you need over bad roads, and its respectable ground clearance gives the confidence that you need while crossing mountain-like speed breakers and even on broken roads. It has the power for highway drives (even with a full load), while also offering a good enough fuel efficiency with most of its powertrain options.

While the current generation of Creta is a blockbuster, we already know that the next-gen Creta is already brewing, and we might see it debuting sometime in late 2026 or early 2027. And, from what our little birdie tells us, we might see it in a much more premium avatar, and possibly with a hybrid powertrain. So, fingers crossed!

These 10 years of Hyundai Creta on our roads have been great, and we wish that the Hyundai SUV continues to leave its mark even in the future.

So the Creta might be for the majority of the market, but is it for you? Let us know in the comments section!
