Quick Highlights
Ola Electric will be launching the Gen 3 platform on January 31 , 2025
Will feature a new more powerful battery pack
The first Gen 3 scooter could come to India by March 2025
Ola Electric has announced the launch date for the upcoming Ola Gen 3 platform. The new platform will be coming to India on January 31, 2025. The announcement was shared via the brand’s official social media channels. The Gen 3 platform will offer a massive update as compared to the Gen 2.
The Generation 3 platform update will consist of 3 main components: the new battery, motor and control unit. Starting off with the battery, the new one will be a structural component of the scooter’s frame.

The brand has claimed that this will help in improving the scooter’s overall shock resistance. Another major highlight of this battery pack is the cells used. Ola Electric has said that the battery pack will be using indigenously-developed Bharat Cells. These made-in-India cells are a lot more energy dense than the 2170 cells which are currently used.
The motor will also be a new one. Instead of going with the regular permanent magnet ones, Ola will be using magnetized electrical coil ones. This will improve the thermal efficiency of the motor, thus improving the scooter’s performance overall.

Lastly, coming to the electronic control modules. The Gen 3 scooters will feature a motor control unit (MCU) which has been integrated into the motor. Ola has also made some interesting changes, such as the integration of some parts of the electric control units, the MCU and battery management system into one single chip.

The brand has claimed that these changes will help it bring advanced features like advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) into their scooters in the future. Overall, the Gen 3 platform looks quite promising and could be used as a base on which the brand will build more electric scooters down the line.
The first two-wheelers from the Gen 3 platform will be the updated Ola S1 electric scooters. All the updates combined should give it a better range, shorter charging times, and more features.
