Ampere Electric Vehicles, a sub-brand of Indian engineering company Greaves Cotton, has announced that it will launch a new electric scooter on June 15. This will be India’s first electric scooter to be launched after the lockdown to contain COVID-19 has been lifted.

Going by the teaser images, the scooter is likely to be a part of the brand’s high-speed category with a decent range, performance and features to boot. One image shows a rather large instrument cluster that’s likely to be an LCD unit. The scooter could be powered by a hub motor linked to a lithium-ion battery pack. Like the Zeal, Ampere’s current top-end scooter, expect this one too to have a range of about 75km. The battery pack in the Zeal takes about 5-6 hours to charge completely, so expect similar charging times with the upcoming scooter as well.

The teaser image also reveals a telescopic front fork and drum brake up front with CBS. The rear is likely to use twin shock absorbers and a drum brake. Expect Ampere to price this electric scooter at around Rs 70,000 (ex-showroom). It will compete with the likes of Gemopai Astrid Lite and Okinawa Ridge Plus.
