Maruti Suzuki has officially revealed the Jimny SUV’s fuel efficiency figures ahead of its launch, which is expected by early-June. The Jimny is powered by the carmaker’s 105PS 1.5-litre petrol engine, paired with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive with low range is standard for both powertrains.

In comparison, the Mahindra Thar petrol-manual, which gets a big 150PS 2-litre turbo-petrol engine, delivers 15.2kmpl. Mahindra hasn’t revealed the automatic version’s numbers, but based on our road test, it delivered 9.16kmpl and 12.18kmpl on the city and highway, respectively, when put under our stringent road test.

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny has been available to book since its debut at Auto Expo 2023 and the carmaker has earlier said it has racked up close to 25,000 reservations. We suspect the Maruti Suzuki Jimny’s pricing to start from around the Rs 10-lakh mark (ex-showroom). And once it goes on sale, it will lock horns with the 3-door iterations of the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha. But do note that both the Jimny’s rivals would soon be offered with larger 5-door versions.
