We expect an early 2022 launch for the Hyundai Alcazar-based people carrier

You’ll get to officially book a Kia Carens from January 14 onwards. Although dealerships have been taking unofficial bookings for the Carens, the official announcement hints at a looming launch. The Korean carmaker made the announcement in a space-themed video that you can watch below.

The video details a few points about the Carens’ features list. You can spot the 10.25-inch touchscreen integrated into the dashboard, and it’s paired with an 8-speaker Bose sound system and 64-colour ambient lighting for an immersive audio-visual experience. It also gets a single-pane sunroof, cabin air purifier, and six airbags for safety. A tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) will be a standard feature across all variants.

Underneath its MPV-like exterior, the Kia Carens is based on a similar platform as the Hyundai Alcazar 7-seater SUV. It is likely to be powered by similar engines as the Seltos, likely paired with the compact SUV’s 6-speed manual, 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and 6-speed auto transmissions.

We expect the Carens to debut in early 2022, and Kia is likely to reveal the official launch date soon. It’ll compete with not just MPV rivals such as the Toyota Innova and Mahindra Marazzo, but also three-row family SUVs such as the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, and MG Hector Plus. Prices are expected to start at around Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
