The Carens Clavis is set to become Kia’s newest offering on our shores, after the recent success of the Syros. The Clavis is essentially a sincere and proper upgrade of the Carens which had started to feel a bit outdated among the modern SUVs. However, both Clavis and Carens will continue to be on sale together, while catering to a slightly different audience.
The Clavis is meant to be a much more premium version of the Carens! So what does it get over the MPV it's based on? Here’s your answer:
Both Carens and Clavis are very similar in terms of dimensions since both cars essentially have the same silhouette and frame. However, the Clavis features more modern styling and newer design elements for a fresher look. The front end looks familiar to the EV5 with sharper styling featuring 3-pod LED headlights in a triangular housing, highlighted by LED DRLs that have a sleek design. Silver skid plates in the lower half add ruggedness to the design.
Its profile and rear end look very similar to the Carens, but certain changes make it stand out. Over the regular Carens, it comes with larger 17-inch alloy wheels with a new design, and the LED tail lights that are connected by an illuminated light bar have a slightly different design. The rear bumper on the Clavis has been updated as well.

As seen in the table above, the Clavis gets more modern features for greater convenience. For starters, it gets larger dual displays and wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Furthermore, good features such as a panoramic sunroof add to the cabin experience. Safety has also been improved with the Clavis as it comes with level-2 ADAS to keep you safe and sound.
Both Carens and Clavis come with the same engine options. However, the Clavis gets an additional gearbox option - a 6-speed manual with the turbo-petrol engine! Here are the detailed specifications:

The Clavis is set to add a different flavour to the MPV segment, a premium one. The Carens was always a well-rounded MPV, but it had started to lack the excitement that similarly priced SUVs would offer. The Clavis, on the other hand, with its fascinating new features and modern elements, will offer a better package overall.
While the styling and features list have improved and have a fresher feel, the Clavis appears to be identical to the Carens in other departments. Both come with the same engine options and similar dimensions. So the Clavis is not really a new car per se, but a properly upgraded one for sure. Does it give you enough reasons to pick it over the Carens? Yes! Will the pricing be similar to the Carens? Only time will tell that. And that time will come on May 23.
So, would you consider the Clavis over the Carens? Let us know in the comments section.
