The facelifted Hyundai i20 has just been launched in India with a starting price tag of Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom). If you’re well versed with the prices of the outgoing model, this starting price is actually Rs 47,000 lower than the older one. And that’s because the carmaker has introduced a new base-spec Era trim, which sits below the then-base-spec Magna variant.
So let’s take a look at what the new variant packs in terms of features and powertrain options:
Let’s get the engine options out the way first. With this facelift, Hyundai only offers a sole 1.2-litre NA petrol engine for the i20. In the Era trim, you only get the 5-speed manual gearbox option. The pairing has an output of 83PS and 114Nm. The CVT automatic option is offered only in the Sportz and Asta (O) trims.
Now to the features:
Halogen headlamps
Side wing spoiler
Body coloured ORVMs
Body coloured bumpers
14-inch steel wheels
Dual tone black and grey fabric upholstery
Passenger seat back pocket
Metal finished door handles (inside)
Sunglass holder
Digitised driver’s display
Front seat adjustable headrest
Idle start stop
Manual AC
Manual ORVMs
Power windows (front only)
Tilt and telescopic steering wheel
C-type charger (front)

Being a base-spec model, the features list is basic, to the extent that it doesn’t even get an infotainment system or a sound system. Now let’s take a look at its safety kit:
the automobile community
Six airbags
ABS with EBD
Electronic stability control (ESC)
Hill-start assist
Vehicle stability control (AKA traction control)
Reverse parking sensors
Manual day-night IRVM
ISOFIX mounts
Seatbelt reminder (all passengers)
3-point seatbelts (all passengers)
Despite it being a base-spec model, the safety kit is rather impressive as most of these are standard across the line. It even offers a few features for which a lot of cars and carmakers make you stretch for the higher trims, if not the top-spec variants outright.
