Hyundai recently unveiled the 2023 i20, featuring minor styling revisions and a new base Era variant. In comparison to its key competitor, the Maruti Baleno, top-spec variants of both the models reveal that Baleno is Rs 64,000 more affordable. However, there are three distinct advantages the i20 has over the Maruti Baleno.

Both cars are equipped with a 1.2-litre petrol engine, with the i20 producing up to 88PS and the Baleno delivering 89PS. The Baleno comes with a 5-speed MT or a 5-speed AMT, while the i20’s engine is paired to a 5-speed MT or a CVT. Notably, the i20's CVT gearbox offers a smoother performance than the Baleno’s AMT.

The cabin of both the cars are feature-packed with key inclusions such as cruise control, auto-folding ORVMs, and a touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. The i20 goes the extra mile with its premium 7-speaker BOSE audio system, a wireless charger, and the added luxury of a sunroof. On the other hand, the Maruti Baleno compensates with a heads-up display.

In terms of safety, both models offer standard features like electronic stability control, hill hold assist, rear parking sensors, and ABS with EBD. However, the i20 takes a step further by providing 6 airbags as standard. Higher-spec i20 models also come with TPMS for added peace of mind. On the other hand, the top-tier Baleno variants also include 6 airbags and a 360-degree camera system.
Prices for the Hyundai i20 start at Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom) while that of the Maruti Baleno starts at Rs 6.61 lakh (ex-showroom).
