This is the version of the E-Class we will be getting in our market, slated for a debut in 2024

Mercedes-Benz has already taken the wraps off the 2024 E-Class saloon, which looks stellar. But India won’t be getting this one. Rather, we would be having the long wheelbase version of the executive sedan, which is headed for markets like ours and China. And images of this particular variant have leaked online in our neighbouring country, giving us our first look at the stretched sedan.

So, does the LWB E-Class look any different from the standard car? In profile, yes, thanks to the stretched wheelbase that packs in more rear-seat legroom. But except for that, it looks very much similar to the standard car. This being the Chinese version, it gets the chrome-laden grille with the 3-pointed star perched on the hood.

But for India, we suspect Mercedes to retain the more sportier look with the tri-pointed star mounted on the grille. To take a closer look at the new E-Class’s exterior design, check out our detailed first-look report

The E-Class’s dashboard also gets what Mercedes would look like to call Superscreen, which is basically three screens making up the entire dash. But these leaked photos give us a glimpse at how the base-spec model would look without the Superscreen. And to be honest, we feel the sense of occasion is still spectacular in the base car.

It gets a large landscape-oriented infotainment screen and a digital driver’s display. But they are separate units and do not sit flush like the Superscreen. And as for the lacking co-driver screen, that place is filled up by wood trim with what looks like backlit small tri-pointed stars.

Coming to the engines, they are market specific. But internationally, the E-Class is available with a host of petrol and diesel engine options, both mild- and strong-hybrid options. In India, the current version of the E-Class is available with 2-litre petrol and diesel units as well as a 3-litre six-cylinder diesel engine.

A spokesperson from Mercedes-Benz India has confirmed that the new generation E-Class is slated for an India debut in the second half of 2024. And we suspect it could start from around Rs 80 lakh (ex-showroom). Merc’s new executive saloon will lock horns with Audi A6 and BMW 5 Series.
