New bits include updated cosmetics, feature additions, and a revised powertrain

Maruti Suzuki has recently given the XL6 MPV a midlife refresh just six days after its Arena counterpart, the Ertiga received the same. Priced from Rs 11.29 lakh (ex-showroom), it’s the first proper update to the people-mover, and is offered in the Zeta, Alpha and the new Alpha+ trim.

Here’s a closer look at everything new in the XL6 in detailed images:

The most noticeable change lies up front. There’s now a bit more splash of chrome on the front grille, and if you look closer, there’s a new honeycomb mesh as well.

A key difference here from the pre-facelift model are the larger 16-inch alloy wheels that lend the MPV a better stance.

The rear looks largely unchanged, but if you look at the tail lamps, they now get a smoked finish, which is a nice touch to give it its own identity.

It can be specced in six monotone colours: Nexa Blue, Brave Khaki, Arctic White, Opulent Red, Grandeur Grey, and Splendid Silver. You can now also add a dual-tone black roof to the Splendid Silver, Brave Khaki and Opulent Red body shades.

Much of the cabin has been left largely unchanged, with the XL6 sporting a black theme. But it does get an updated grey wooden panel that runs along the width of the dashboard.

The big change is with its 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is now Maruti’s new SmartPlay Pro unit that comes with voice commands, and connected car tech (telematics only). Other additions include paddle shifters, and ventilated front seats.

The 2022 XL6 has also gotten a bump in safety with four airbags, stability control (ESP) and hill-hold assist now standard across all four trims. Other add-ons include a 360-degree camera and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

While we still have a 1.5-litre petrol engine, it now gets Suzuki’s DualJet and mild-hybrid technology, and makes 103PS/136.8Nm.

There’s a 5-speed manual transmission as standard from before, but the 4-speed torque converter has been swapped for a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

The 2022 Maruti XL6 can also be owned on a subscription basis with plans starting from Rs 25,499 per month. It rekindles its rivalry with the Kia Carens, Mahindra Marazzo, and facelifted Ertiga
