The petrol variants of the XUV700 were indeed popular, especially in September and October 2022. Heck, during the same period last year, the petrol variants outsold the diesel by a significant margin. In 2022 though, the diesel variants of the XUV700 were more popular than the petrol variants.
This is due to the fact that when Mahindra commenced deliveries of the XUV700 in 2021, only the petrol variants were initially rolled out, followed by diesel trims. So that explains why the petrol variant was more popular in 2021.
Typically, in the midsize SUV segment, diesel variants enjoy more popularity than petrol trims as they are more torquier and much more frugal. Turbo-petrol engines put out more outright power, but they are super thirsty, especially when you have a hard right foot.
