The Daimler name will live on, but as a separate entity called Daimler Trucks AG

  • The decision behind this rebrand was due to the group realigning its strategy to focus on EVs and vehicle software.

  • Mercedes-Benz will continue with its passenger car and van brands including Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-AMG, Mercedes-Maybach and Mercedes-EQ.

  • Ends a 95-year journey that began in 1926 when companies from Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler joined hands to create Daimler-Benz AG.

The names Daimler and Mercedes-Benz combined are a tale as old as time with its root at the start of the automotive age. Fast forward to 2022 and the two iconic names will no longer be together as Mercedes’ parent company Daimler AG has been rebranded to Mercedes-Benz AG.

This ends an association that started all the way back in 1926 when Benz & Cie. owned by Carl Benz, and  Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft owned by Gottlieb Daimler joined hands to create Daimler-Benz AG. Despite the name, 'Daimler-Benz', all the silver arrows that came out of the factory would use the iconic name ‘Mercedes-Benz.’

The reason behind the group’s decision to rename themselves Mercedes-Benz AG was due to their realigned strategy focus for the future which included focusing on electric vehicles and vehicle software.

So what does that mean for the Daimler name? Well, it's still alive, just as a separate entity in the form of Daimler Trucks AG. This was formed after the successful implementation of Daimler Trucks AG in the Frankfurt stock market. Mercedes-Benz AG still holds a 35 percent stake in Daimler Truck Holding AG with about five percent of it being held in its pension assets. As for Mercedes-Benz AG, it continues to feature its passenger car and van brands including Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-AMG, Mercedes-Maybach and Mercedes-EQ.
