The Mercedes-Benz S-Class packs a lot of stuff up its sleeve, but some of it really sets it apart as the ultimate Mercedes experience

Mercedes-Benz S-Class

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has long been regarded as the benchmark for luxury sedans, serving as the brand's technological and engineering showcase for decades. While Mercedes-Benz now offers a diverse lineup of luxury sedans, SUVs, EVs, and performance models, the S-Class continues to represent the very best of what the three-pointed star stands for. It combines cutting-edge technology, unmatched comfort, effortless performance, and a level of sophistication that only a few automobiles can replicate.

Even in its latest facelifted avatar, the S-Class remains the definitive Mercedes-Benz experience. Here are five reasons why the flagship limousine still sits at the very top of the brand's hierarchy.

A Regal Design Language

The Mercedes-Benz has always been one of the most plush and elegant-looking sedans in the country, and the 2026 facelifted model carries that legacy forward. The design of the S-Class can be best quoted as understated, elegant, and very appealing. The yacht-type styling improves the stance, while the long wheelbase results in a very spacious cabin. The exterior boasts redesigned front and rear bumper which align with the overall styling. It gets design elements like a large illuminated grille, illuminated bonnet emblem, DIGITAL LIGHT headlights, and new LED taillights with three-pointed star lighting signatures. It continues to ride on 18-inch alloy wheels, but the option to upgrade to 19-inch or 20-inch alloys is also available at an added price. Overall, from all angles, it is unmistakably an S-Class.

Packed With Cutting-Edge Technology

Mercedes-Benz has equipped the S-Class with the latest tech and features to give the owners a taste of what modern luxury feels like. Yet another reason why the S-Class has always been the first choice for customers seeking the latest tech throughout all generations. The latest model comes equipped with features like Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX Superscreen triple-screen setup, incorporating a 14.4-inch central infotainment touchscreen, a 12.3-inch passenger display, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 31-speaker Burmester 4D sound system, four-zone climate control, heated, ventilated and massage seats, a dual-pane sunroof, multi-colour ambient lighting, Digital Vent Control, which enables occupants to adjust the direction of airflow through the infotainment screen, dual wireless phone chargers, and over-the-air software updates. Most of these features can be accessed via the central infotainment screen, which is powered by Mercedes-Benz's latest MB.OS software architecture with fourth-generation MBUX, bringing enhanced voice recognition, AI-based assistance, and more intuitive interaction between the driver and the vehicle.

Luxury And Comfort Taken To The Next Level

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class’s biggest highlight has always been the rear seat experience with next-level comfort, convenience, and plushness. If you enjoy being chauffeur-driven, the rear seat highlights will surely impress you. The rear seats feature a 43.5-degree reclining angle, heating, ventilation, and massage functions, two rear-seat control tablets, and two 13.6-inch rear entertainment screens with video conferencing functionality. To further enhance your ride, the S-Class gets an air suspension setup as standard and an intelligent damping system as an optional add-on. Along with this, the luxury sedan also incorporates rear-wheel steering with a 4.5-degree setup as standard, and a 10-degree setup available as an option.

Apart from all of this, Mercedes-Benz gives buyers the option to fully customise their S-Class with different choices of exterior colours, interior theme, upholsteries, seats, roofliners, and tech packages. This means that every S-Class is unique in itself and specially handcrafted.

Safety Remains A Key Priority

When you spend a premium of Rs 2.20 crore, you aspire to feel cocooned in top-notch safety. To justify this, Mercedes-Benz has offered a total of 15 airbags with the 2026 S-Class, making it the first sedan in India to offer such a high number of airbags. Apart from this, the S-Class also features a Level 2++ ADAS suite, upgraded auto park assist, and a rear-wheel steering with a 4.5-degree setup as standard, and a 10-degree setup available as an option.

Introduction Of A New Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain

It is for the first time that Mercedes-Benz is offering a PHEV powertrain in the Indian market. Not only will it help in improving the performance of the S-Class, but it will also help in boosting the engine efficiency. This PHEV setup uses a 120kW electric motor and a 22kWh battery, and is paired with the 3-litre inline-six turbo petrol engine. This setup is capable of delivering an electric-only range of up to 115 kms and supports DC fast charging as well.
