Besides the resemblances, the Harrier EV is expected to carry a few more features and some major mechanical tweaks compared to its diesel counterpart

With electrification taking centre stage and Tata Motors leading the charge, the Harrier nameplate is the latest in its portfolio to be offered in both diesel and electric options. The upcoming Harrier EV has been showcased once again after its initial reveal at the Auto Expo 2025, this time at the Tata facility, flaunting its ability in mad action. That said, how does the Harrier EV set itself apart from its diesel-powered sibling? Let’s find out in the next section.

Design

The Tata Harrier EV and its ICE counterpart, albeit sharing a similar design, do a few things differently. For starters, the Harrier EV’s blue hue as seen in these images isn’t offered with the standard model. .

Much as expected, the first and foremost difference lies in the grille design where the Harrier EV is closed off compared to a mesh-like pattern finished in chrome in the ICE version. Even in its bumper, the Harrier EV has distinctive vertical slats - a signature found in some Tata EVs. The lighting elements remain mutual between the two.

The profile is familiar, however, the Harrier EV features dual-tone alloys with aero covers compared to the regular 18-inch wheels in the diesel version. The EV also gets a signature ‘.EV’ badging on the front doors.

Compared to this, the diesel version has a ‘HARRIER’ lettering.

At the back, the Harrier EV is differentiated by its 'Harrier.EV' emblem positioned on the tailgate and a restyled rear bumper with vertical slats. The connected LED tail lights remain identical between both of them.

Interior And Features

The Tata Harrier EV’s interior still remains undisclosed officially but from what we saw from the teasers and during the Auto Expo, the overall layout is similar to the diesel Harrier. The EV has a dual-tone grey and white theme that makes the cabin feel airier. Also, one can expect different variant-wise themes to be offered with the Harrier EV, just like the standard version.

Feature-wise, both SUVs will feature a 10.25-inch digital driver's display and a big 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The Harrier EV will also inherit some of the diesel variant's major comforts, including a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, and dual-zone climate control.

But one of the highlights of the EV is its summon mode, which enables the vehicle to be crawl forward or reverse remotely with the key, giving an extra level of convenience in small parking spaces. Additionally, it should also come with vehicle to load (V2L) and vehicle to charge (V2C) functionalities as well.

On the safety front, the Harrier EV is expected to be loaded with as many as seven airbags, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, a 360-degree camera, and Level 2 ADAS features.

Powertrain

The Tata Harrier EV’s powertrain too is kept under wraps. It's expected to come with a large battery pack with a claimed range of over 500 km. What’s confirmed is that the Harrier EV will feature a dual-motor setup and have an all-wheel drivetrain.

The Harrier ICE makes use of a 2-litre diesel engine which makes 170 PS and 350 Nm. It is mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The main difference is that diesel Harrier is offered only with a two-wheel drive setup.

Also, a peek below the rear bumper reveals that the Tata Harrier EV will get a more sophisticated multi-link rear suspension as opposed to the torsion beam setup in the Harrier diesel.

Price And Rivals

The Tata Harrier is priced between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 26.25 lakh (ex-showroom) while we expect the Tata Harrier EV to be priced around Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom). With that, it will be a rival to the Mahindra XEV 9e and BYD Atto 3 while its ICE counterpart takes on the likes of MG Hector, Jeep Compass and 5-seater variants of Mahindra XUV700.

On paper, the introduction of all-wheel drive, 500 Nm of torque and inclusion of multi-link rear suspension does seem promising. But how it performs on the road is something we will be answering when we drive it later in the future. Stay tuned.
