Tata Motors has announced a load of EV related reveals for April, and the upgraded Nexon EV looks to be one of them

  • Test mules earlier spotted running rear disc brakes and new alloy wheels.

  • Delhi RTO document hinted at a 136PS electric motor, with reports suggesting a larger battery as well.

  • The Nexon EV currently has a 129PS powertrain and offers an ARAI-claimed 312km of range.

  • One of Tata’s EV announcements could also be a special edition trim for the Nexon EV.

Tata Motors recently teased a mysterious new EV concept that will break cover on April 6. But now it looks like the carmaker is set for quite a busy April, especially in the EV space, with some important announcements coming in on April 20 and April 28. And we think one of these dates will see the launch of the upgraded Nexon EV.

As for the upgrades, they should be on the drivetrain and mechanicals as test mules were spotted running rear disc brakes (for better stopping power) and new alloy wheels. Also, a Delhi RTO document has hinted at a more powerful 136PS (+7 PS) electric motor, with reports suggesting the battery pack could be upgraded to a 40kWh (+10kWh) unit. Like was the case with the top-spec ICE Nexon recently, the Nexon EV’s upgrade could also include the addition of features such as ventilated front seats, an air purifier, auto-dimming IRVM, and electronic stability control.

Currently, the Nexon EV draws power from a 129PS electric motor, juiced up by a 30.2kWh battery pack to deliver an ARAI-claimed 312km of range. The other possibility is also a special edition trim for the electric SUV as hinted from our recent chat with Rajan Amba, Vice President of Sales, Marketing & Customer Service at Tata Motors

The Tata Nexon EV retails from Rs 14.54 lakh to Rs 17.15 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Expect a price premium for the updated Nexon EV over the current model considering the potential changes on offer. While it’s a cheaper alternative to the Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV, it will soon have the likes of the Mahindra XUV300 Electric as well as MG’s upcoming electric SUV to go up against in its segment.
