It’s the most slippery Hyundai in existence with a drag coefficient of 0.21

  • Based on Hyundai’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) like the Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6.

  • Styling highlights include a teardrop-shaped silhouette, snazzy alloys, a minimalist face, and a sporty rear end with Ioniq 5-like pixel lighting.

  • Cabin features twin 12-inch digital displays, side camera displays, a two-spoke steering wheel and dual-tone ambient lighting.

  • Should come with single (RWD) and dual motor (AWD) powertrain setups and two battery packs with a claimed range over 480km.

  • Full details to surface in July.

We’ve seen it in concept form via the Prophecy, and we’ve had bread crumbs via teasers and spy images. Now the covers are finally off the Hyundai Ioniq 6. It’s an electric sedan, the second Ioniq-branded model to come after the Ioniq 5, and certainly lives up to its ‘electrified streamliner’ tag given by the carmaker.

Hyundai really wasn’t kidding about the Ioniq 6’s streamlined nature, as the overall silhouette looks as smooth as a teardrop. So smooth that it's the slickest Hyundai around with a drag coefficient of just 0.21. Going deeper into the styling bits, the Ioniq 6’s face is minimalist, yet enough to grab eyeballs with 700 Parametric pixels on the headlamps blended with a slight tinge of sportiness on the bumper as well as the vertical elements on the sides.

Moving over to the sides, the teardrop silhouette is accentuated by the smooth curvature on the roof and beltline. The wheels themselves look quite complicated, yet complement the minimalist design. At the rear, it goes the sporty route with a rear spoiler below the rear window and a ducktail spoiler just below it. It takes some inspiration from the Ioniq 5 with those full width connected tail lamps featuring a similar pixel effect. Look closer around the A-pillar area and you’ll notice rear-facing cameras instead of conventional mirrors.

Hyundai hasn’t divulged into the nitty gritty details of the cabin, but the images already seem to paint a theme of futuristic premiumness inside. What easily stands out are the 12-inch twin screens comprising the digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system combined by a single dash frame. Speaking of dash frames, you’ll notice a sharp upwards arch on the outer edges which is actually making space for the side camera display screens.

Setting the ambience inside are dual-tone ambient lighting setups on the dashboard and door panels that offer 64 colours to choose from. A two-spoke steering wheel with pixel lights and lack of buttons on the door panels continue the streamlined nature of the EV.

Hyundai’s yet to spill the beans on what’s under the hood, but we do know the electric sedan will be built on Hyundai’s dedicated Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) like the Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6. This should mean we get rear-wheel drive (single-motor) and all-wheel drive (dual motor) powertrain options, alongside two battery pack options. Range could likely go over 480km on a single charge.

You won’t need to wait too long before Hyundai reveals everything about the Ioniq 6, as full details will be revealed in July. What does this mean for India? Well, quite a lot since we’re expecting the Ioniq 5 in the second half of 2022. The Ioniq 6, however, could take until 2023 to arrive in India as part of the carmaker’s EV roadmap to introduce up to six EVs by 2028 in the country.
