Taiwanese electric two-wheeler manufacturer Gogoro has revealed plans of introducing a new electric scooter in India on December 12. According to online reports, the upcoming product for the Indian market will likely be the CrossOver, an adventure-style scooter that was globally unveiled in October this year.

The CrossOver is labeled by Gogoro as the ‘ultimate two-wheeler SUV’. Its utilitarian and rugged appearance is characterised by large body panels, a spacious floorboard, and a split-type roomy seat. Notably, the pillion seat can be folded to function as a rider backrest, creating additional space for luggage, just like the Hero Electric Nyx. Powering the CrossOver is a 7kW electric motor and two batteries, each with 1.6kWh capacity, for a claimed range of around 100km.

More details about the pricing and availability will obviously be announced at the launch and the scooter’s lower variant will likely be a business-to-business (B2B) product. The brand initiated a pilot program in India in November last year to assess the feasibility of its battery-swapping network. And that Gogoro has the world’s largest battery swapping network, we hope Gogoro brings some of that tech to India. And now if the FAME 2 subsidy is extended for five more years, that, combined with the battery-swapping tech would truly make it quite easy for people to make the transition to EVs. While the government of India had drafted the Niti Aayog EV battery swap policy early last year, the policy is stuck as of now.
