After being showcased at the Auto Expo 2025, BYD is all set to launch the Sealion 7 on February 17. It will be positioned in the premium electric SUV segment and will rival the updated BMW iX1 LWB, whose long-wheelbase version (LWB) was launched recently. Looking to choose between the two? We have simplified things by comparing their specifications and features to help you decide which electric SUV to go for.

Even in its long-wheelbase variant, the BMW iX1 LWB falls short of the Sealion 7 in almost every aspect. It is not only shorter and narrower but also has a smaller boot space and a shorter wheelbase than the Sealion 7. However, the iX1 is taller than the BYD SUV by a margin of 7 mm.

Feature-wise, both SUVs are evenly matched in terms of essential and modern-day amenities. However, the Sealion 7 stands out with its larger-sized alloy wheels, a bigger infotainment system, and enhanced safety thanks to eleven airbags and a 360-degree camera. Additionally, it offers added convenience with a heads-up display and ventilated front-row seats. Both electric SUVs, share tech such as an NFC-based digital key, and ADAS.

The BYD Sealion 7, in its top-specced variant, not only offers a better-claimed range but also delivers superior performance, primarily due to its larger battery pack over the iX1 LWB. Furthermore, the 313 PS electric motor setup found in the base Sealion 7 outperforms the iX1 LWB in terms of both range and performance. The Sealion 7 also provides the option to choose between a front-wheel drivetrain or all-wheel drive options.
We expect BYD to price the Sealion 7 from Rs 45 lakh onwards, on the other hand, the BMW iX1 LWB is priced at Rs 49 lakh (ex-showroom). Apart from rivalry with each other, both lock horns with the Volvo EX40 (Single-motor), Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6.
Judging by the specs, the BYD Sealion 7 is the clear winner, as it will offer better space due to its larger dimensions. Additionally, with its feature-packed cabin and superior performance, the BYD Sealion 7 stands out as a compelling choice. However, much also depends on its pricing, which BYD is yet to announce.
That said, the BMW iX1 LWB is not far behind, offering a well-rounded package with a well-equipped cabin, decent overall performance, and the appeal of owning a luxury brand product.
